St. Phillip, Barbados - Veteran batsman Wavell Hinds hit his 21st First Class century to lead Jamaica to a state of ascendency in their third round game against Guyana at Foursqaure Oval in the WICB Regional 4-Day Tournament.
Hinds played a patient and controlled innings and registered the highest score of the tournament with 151 on a flat Foursquare wicket which is hosting First Class cricket for the first time.
Hinds was aided by a dashing century from wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh who scored 124 batting at number eight as the Jamaicans amassed 429 in their first innings.
Left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul picked up his first five wicket haul, finishing with 5 for 91 while pacer Brandon Bess took 4 for 107 which also represented career best figures for him.
The Jamaicans resumed on day two on 239 for 6 and Hinds and Baugh put on 233 for the 7th wicket moving the score from 190 to 422 before Jamaica lost their last four wickets for seven runs.
Nikita Miller, the West Indies left arm spinner rocked the Guyanese in their response to leave them 112 for 5 at the end of the second day. Miller picked up 3 for 25 including Travis Dowlin for a first ball duck while David Bernard Jr took the wicket of captain Sewnarine Chattergoon (22) and Tamar Lambert’s off spin accounted for Narsingh Deonarine (24).
Deonarine’s dismissal though came through a leaping and flying catch by Bernard Jr at wide mid on which stunned everyone looking at the action. Deonarine pulled hard at a Lambert short delivery but Bernard Jr intercepted and hauled in a phenomenal one handed catch.
Rookie opener Rajendra Chandrika made 30 and the left handed Assad Fudadin is at the crease on 31.
Guyana will not have to bat to save the match as they are 118 behind the follow on total and 317 behind Jamaica's first innings total and with just five lower order wickets in hand.
