Commentary:
35ov [. 1nb . . 1 .] 136/1: Barath 49*, D Ganga 10*. Ganga will go to bed on 49. The lead is 211 with nine wickets remaining.
Last over of the day coming up. Lewis to bowl to Ganga.
34ov [. . . 1 . .] 133/1: Barath 48*, D Ganga 9*.
33ov [. 2 . . . 4] 132/1: Barath 48*, D Ganga 8*. DROPPED! Barath looks to pull and skies it to mid wicket. Shane Shillingford at short mid wicket runs back but was never in control, he never judged it properly and was staggering. Barely got his hand to a catch he should have taken comfortably. Lewis can't believe his bad luck and has to look in the other direction to conceal his anger. Barath is now within two of a second fifty in the game but he had a lucky, lucky escape there.
32ov [. 4b 2 . . 2] 126/1: Barath 42*, D Ganga 8*. The lead is now over 200 - 201 with nine wickets left.
31ov [. . . . . .] 118/1: Barath 40*, D Ganga 6*. Maiden over by Lewis.
30ov [. . . 1 . .] 118/1: Barath 40*, D Ganga 6*. The minimum allotment of overs for the day has been completed but they'll play on to the scheduled cut off time of 5pm. Will Barath get his second fifty of the match this evening?
29ov [. 1 . . . 6] 117/1: Barath 40*, D Ganga 5*. Barath gets cramped up but still manages to get enough bat on a short ball from Lewis which he pulls over mid wicket for six.
28ov [. 1 . . 2nb . .] 110/1: Barath 34*, D Ganga 4*. Now the no ball bug has infected Shillingford.
27ov [. . 1nb 2 . . 1] 106/1: Barath 32*, D Ganga 3*. Lewis is clearly suffering from a no ball problem. He won't want to get a wicket only to turn around and see the umpire's arm outstretched.
28ov [. 1 . . 2nb . .] 110/1: Barath 34*, D Ganga 4*.
28ov [. 1 . . 2nb . .] 110/1: Barath 34*, D Ganga 4*.
26ov [1 . . . . W] 101/1: Barath 31*, Ganga 0*. Shillingford makes the breakthrough and he will remember that once that happened in the first innings the Trinis lost a bundle of wickets. That'll make the Windwards happy.
WICKET: J Guillen c wkt Fletcher b Shillingford 60. 101/1. The swithcing around works for acting captain Rawl Lewis (Devon Smith is off the field, presumably injured). Guillen lunges forward, gets an edge and is caught behind for a well played 60 but he'll be disappointed he didn't get another 40 runs or so. Captain Daren Ganga comes in.
26ov [1 . . . . W] 101/0: Barath 31*, Guillen 60*.
BOWLING CHANGE: It's switcharoo. Shane Shillingford now moves to the Brian Lara Pavilion End. Liam Sebastien just had the solitary over to facilitate the switch around.
25ov [. . 2 . . 4] 100/0: Barath 30*, Guillen 60*. 100 up in fine style. Guillen rushes down the track to Lewis and launches him one bounce into the boundary over wide mid on. He's picked his spot and gone for the shot.
BOWLING CHANGE: Rawl Lewis switches ends. Comes on at the Gerry Gomes Media Center End where he took those 5 wickets yesterday. Shane Shillingford is off.
24ov [. 1 . 1b . 1] 94/0: Barath 30*, Guillen 54*. Sebastien has an action that looks like if he can't decided whether he's a mime on fast forward or a breakdancer on slow motion.
BOWLING CHANGE: Liam Sebastien comes into the attack to bowl off spin replacing Rawl Lewis 4-0-11-0 (3nb)
23ov [. . 1 1 . .] 91/0: Barath 30*, Guillen 52*. Barath will be happy to get out of the 20s. He really struggled through that period there after starting with a flourish. Guillen has been stroking the ball freely though. After putting on 90 in the first innings these two have not put on 91 and the lead is 166. T&T in absolute command at this stage.
22ov [. . 1 nb . . .] 89/0: Barath 29*, Guillen 51*. Third no ball by Lewis. Spinner bowling three no balls in an innings? Couldn't be could it? Surely that's not acceptable.
Lengthy delay as Miles Bascombe who is fielding under the bat gets medical attention from the Trini physio Ronald Rogers as the Windwards do not have a physio of their own. That's really unacceptable in this day and age. Bascombe was struck on the ankle by Barath who was driving at Rawl Lewis. That was almost a ten minute delay!
21ov [2 . 2 ] 87/0: Barath 28*, Guillen 51*. Fifty for Guillen as he turns off the pad for two. He faced 64 balls and batted for 84 minutes, hitting seven 4s. A fine knock and he's left Barath stalled in the 20s. His celebration is modest as he waves the bat all around limply. It's clear that he's not satisfied and wants something with at least another digit. It's his second 50+ score in the season. His scores this season have been 10, 31, 18, 16, 47, 134, 7, 1, 37, 51*.(Stats provided by the official scorer Rohit Balkissoon who has been doing a fine job here in the Gerry Gomez Media Center but that's nothing new. Rohit's always in top form.)
20ov [. . 1 . . .] 83/0: Barath 28*, Guillen 47*.
19ov [. 4 . . 1 .] 82/0: Barath 28*, Guillen 46*. Guillen gets to the pitch of Mathurin's delivery and lift it in the air, wide of mid on for four. Two hurried bounces before it goes over the rope. He's within 4 runs of what would be his second 50+ score of the season
18ov [. 1 . nb 4b 1 2] 77/0: Barath 28*, Guillen 41*. Drinks after an over in which nine runs were scored.
17ov [. 1 . . . 1] 68/0: Barath 25*, Guillen 40*.
16ov [. . nb . . 2 .] 66/0: Barath 24*, Guillen 39*. Lewis oversteps and then Barath cuts for 2 to move off 22 which he has been on for some time.
BOWLING CHANGE: Shane Shillingford's off spin is replaced by Rawl Lewis' leg spin at the Brian Lara Pavilion End. It is a very imposing structure that Brian Lara Pavilion. Fitting for such an imposing figure in West Indian and world cricket.
15ov [. . . . . 4] 63/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 39*. Guillen goes down on one knee and half sweeps/half pulls from outside off stump through mid wicket for a boundary. He really is in good nick and would be disappointed that he does not have three hundreds to his name for the season.
Mathurin employing a leg slip for Guillen now. This is the point where Guillen was in the previous innings when he gave it away after batting so well. he made 37 then, he's on 35 now. We'll see if he learns from his mistakes or if he's a stubborn student.
14ov [. 2 . . . 1] 59/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 35*. Acres of vacant real estate on the on side and Guillen capitalizes for a two then a single.
13ov [1 . . . . .] 56/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 32*. Repeat of what happened a few overs before. Guillen takes a single then Barath plays defensively back up the pitch for the next five balls.
12ov [2 . 4 . . 1] 55/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 31*. 50 run opening partnership is up for TT in little time. Second time in the match this has happened for TT and in fact it is also the second time in the season the opening pair has put on 50. Guillen celebrates by cutting Shillingford for four. Audacious. He's been batting well all season long without getting big scores - just one century v Barbados. He has changed his game to the point where he now looks every part of a natural strokemaker.
The spinners have kept the T&T openers quiet. Previously they were going along like raging bulls.
11ov [. . . . 1 1] 48/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 24*. Both batsmen are progressing along comfortably. Not much trouble despite Barath top edging a sweep but it feel safely behind the keeper.
10ov [. . . . . .] 46/0: Barath 21*, Guillen 23*.
9ov [1 . . . . .] 46/0: Barath 21*, Guillen 23*. Single to Guillen early up in the over then Barath spends the other five deliveries playing defensively to Mathurin.
8ov [. . . . . 1] 45/0: Barath 21*, Guillen 22*. The spinners are pulling it back after a blistering few overs from Barath and Guillen. The opening bowlers struggled with their line to the left hand/right hand combination.
7ov [1 . . . . .] 44/0: Barath 21*, Guillen 21*.
BOWLING CHANGE: Double change. Nelon Pascal (3-0-25-0) is taken off and Garey Mathurin comes on to bowl left arm finger spin.
6ov [. . 4 . 1 1] 43/0: Barath 21*, Guillen 20*. Barath sweeps and Nelon Pascal bungles at backward square. The ball goes between his legs and instead of 1 it is 4.
BOWLING CHANGE: Smith wastes no time. He removes Deighton Butler (2-0-12-0) and brings on Shane Shillingford.
5ov [4 1 1 . 4 4] 37/0: Barath 16*, Guillen 19*. What a cover drive by Guillen! He's looking to match Barath stroke for stroke it seems. That shot must contend as shot of the match. It was that good by the left handed Guillen who has been playing a lot of his cricket in Barbados. Now he's got the crowd going. He rocks back and pulls Pascal for another 4. Even the whistles in the crowd are going off. A few hundred souls are in and they are enjoying their local boys. And there he goes again. This was short and wide outside off stump and Guillen skips over and pulls it over mid wicket for another 4. 14 runs in the over. A rollicking start by T&T.
4ov [4 1 . . 1 4] 23/0: Barath 15*, Guillen 6*. A cover drive wrapped in the most exquisite wrapping. Barath eased that through the cover region, all along the ground from his bat to the boundary rope. Five balls later when he regains the strike he hooks Butler behind square infront the Trini Posse Stand which has a lone gent sitting in front decked out in the red, white and black of T&T and he is waving a massive Trini flag as well.
For a country which is in a period of drought this QPO outfield looks rather lush and green. Perhaps the QPO has been spared from the water rationing.
3ov [. 1 . nb 4 . .] 13/0: Barath 6*, Guillen 5*. Guillen waits and waits on that short ball. He had so much time, then pulls forward of square for four. It's a slow pitch and Pascal's really going to have to put some shoulders into it for his short balls to have any effect.
Pascal operating with just two slips (not that he needs more on this track), a third man, point, cover, mid off, mid on, square leg and fine leg.
2ov [1 . . . 1 .] 7/0: Barath 5*, Guillen 1*. Guillen off the mark straight away with a single into the on side.
Deighton Butler will bowl from the Brian Lara Pavilion End.
1ov [. . . 4 . nb .] 5/0: Barath 4*, Guillen 0*. Barath off the mark with a boundary.
The T&T innings about to start with Adrian Barath and Justin Guillen first up. Nelon Pascal has the new ball. T7T start 75 runs ahead after that inept showing with the bat by Windwards.
TEA: Match Referee Clyde Cumberbatch has indicated that tea will be taken early and T&T will have a minimum of 30 overs to face in the final session which will commence shortly. Grab a drink and rejoin us in about 10 minutes for the resumption.
A fine performance by the new T&T spin twins Amit Jaggernauth (4 for 58) and Imran Khan (3 for 62) who shared seven wickets between them. They were not unplayable at any stage but batsman after batsman simply surrendered their hand in what was an abysmal display overall save for Andre Fletcher who made 61 but even he threw his hand away in the end.
BOWLING: Gabriel 3-1-5-0, Stewart 14-3-35-1, Jaggernauth 25-6-58-4, Khan 23.2-4-62-3, S Ganga 5-1-21-0
71ov [. W] 188 all out: Butler 24*. It's all over for the Windwards who have batted rather poorly.
WICKET: K Peters c D Ganga b Khan 13. 188 all out. Peters has had enough. He tries to slap Imran Khan back over his head and skies it. Daren Ganga from short mid wicket runs behind the standing umpire and takes a well judged tumbling catch. The Windwards innings comes to an end and they have allowed a deficit of 75.
71ov [. W] 188 all out: Butler 24*. It's all over for the Windwards who have batted rather poorly.
WICKET: K Peters c D Ganga b Khan 13. 188 all out. Peters has had enough. He tries to slap Imran Khan back over his head and skies it. Daren Ganga from short wid wicket runs behind the standing umpire and takes a well judged tumbling catch. The Windwards innings comes to an end and they have allowed a deficit of 75.
70ov [. . 1 . 4 .] 188/9: Butler 24*, Peters 13*. Butler goes hard at Stewart and it peels off the outside edge and goes through the vacant third man region for four. Valuable runs being added here, runs T&T can ill afford to relinquish. This last wicket stand - now worth 39 - must really be frustrating Daren Ganga and his boys.
The last wicket fell in the 58th over so this two have batted for 11 overs now. If only the batsmen had scored more runs they are showing that they could hang in at the bottom and get a few but they've been left with too much work to do.
69ov [. . . . . .] 183/9: Butler 20*, Peters 12*. DROPPED! Jason Mohammed at square leg has a sweep burst through his hands and hit him on the chest before bouncing to the ground. Very embarrassing miss and Butler survives. That could have been wicket number 32 for Imran Khan this season.
68OV [. . . 4 . .] 183/9: Butler 20*, Peters 12*. Peters cover drives Stewart and looks like a Test batsman in so doing. 4. That was not the sort of cover drives you see from the typical number 11. Top shot! He covers up for the rest of the over.
67ov [2 . . . . .] 179/9: Butler 20*, Peters 8*.
66ov [. 1 . . . .] 177/9: Butler 18*, Peters 8*. Stewart starts by hanging just outside off stump, not forcing the batsmen to play.
BOWLING CHANGE: Navin Stewart replaces Amit Jaggernauth at the Gerry Gomez Media Center End.
65ov [2 1 . 2b 3 1] 176/9: Butler 17*, Peters 8*. Second highest partnership for the Windwards this one is now. They have put on 26 so far for the last wicket. This pair can be a very nagging one. They can hang around. That these two have made the second highest partnership of the innings is a major indictment on the top and middle order batsmen.
64ov [. . . 2 . 1] 167/9: Butler 13*, Peters 5*. Butler strokes into the on side for a couple, then a single. He's batting with confidence but T&T need just one wicket more.
63ov [. 2 . 1 1 .] 164/9: Butler 10*, Peters 5*. The tailenders are hanging in.
Drinks are taken. One hour after lunch the Windwards have collapsed, losing 5 wickets in the session for 26 runs. Jaggernauth 24-8-55-4. Khan 19-4-49-2. They are the men to have done the damage for T&T but they were aided by some brainless strokeplay by the Windwards batsmen.
62ov [. 4 . . . .] 160/9: Butler 9*, Peters 2*. Butler sweeps for a boundary.
Jaggernauth going between the umpire and the stumps now to the left handed Butler. It's a Vincentian last pair as but Butler and Peters are not only left arm seamers alike but also from St Vincent.
61ov [. 1 . . 1 .] 156/9: Butler 5*, Peters 2*. Two comfortable single.
The end is nigh for the Windwards here. Not that Butler and Peters can't bat. They certainly can but they have so much work to do and they are the last pair. They are still 109 runs away from first innings points. That's as close to impossible as it gets.
60ov [. 4 . . . .] 154/9: Butler 4*, Peters 1*. Five wickets since lunch have fallen for 31 runs. Some extremely poor batting by the Windwards. It all started with a brain freeze by Andre Feltcher and Devon Smith when they sold their wickets rather cheaply and got out in very soft fashion.
59ov [. . . . . .] 150/9: Butler 0*, Peters 1*. Maiden by Imran Khan who continues to operate around the wicket but all the wickets are falling at the other end now.
58ov [ . . . W 1 .] 150/9: Butler 0*, Peters 1*.
WICKET: S Shillingford lbw Jaggernauth 12. 149/9. The Windwards won't learn. Shillingford is sweeping and misses and is taken on the pad but he's not far down the track. That would have hit the sticks. Another one bites the dust. Windwards have flopped badly.
57ov [. . 1 . . .] 149/8: Shillingford 12*, Butler 0*.
56ov [W . W . . .] 148/8: Shillingford 11*, Butler 0*. Double strike by Jaggernauth and a maiden as well.
WICKET: G Mathurin lbw Jaggernauth 0*. 148/8. Another plumb lbw decision. Mathurin plays back and is trapped lbw off his second ball. Windwards are plummeting.
WICKET: R Lewis lbw Jaggernauth 5*. 148/7. Oh jeezum! Rawl Lewis what are you thinking? The ball has been keeping low from time to time all day, and even since yesterday. What are you doing playing on the backfoot to the offie? He's trapped plumb in front. It could not have been any plumber. In fact it was so plumb the Umpire didn't raise his finger expecting Lewis to walk and when he lingered Umpire Kelly belatedly sent him on his way. The Trinis knew they had their man from the get go.
55ov [. . 1 . 1 1] 148/6: Lewis 5*, Shillingford 11*. Lewis and Shillingford are turning over the strike with consummate ease. That's what they need to do as they engage in this consolidation effort.
54ov [. 4 . 4 . .] 145/6: Lewis 3*, Shillingford 10*. Shillingford is looking to push on with it. He launches Jaggernauth over mid on for four then cuts for another boundary.
53ov [. . . 1 . 1] 137/6: Lewis 3*, Shillingford 2*. Singles into the on side as Imran Khan bowls from around the wicket.
52ov [. . . . . .] 135/6: Lewis 2*, Shillingford 1*. Maiden by Jaggernauth. Trinidad & Tobago are now in full control of this match once again after a see-saw first day.
51ov [. . 1 W 1 .] 135/6: Lewis 2*, Shillingford 1*. Imran Khan picks up another wicket to move to 31 in the season. He has taken both wickets after lunch and he has only bowled two overs since the break. That was not, by any measure, the best ball he has bowled this season or any season for that matter. Two ugly dismissals for Windwards. both Fletcher and Smith virtually surrendered their wicket. Very poor cricket from the two senior batsmen who are both Windies players albeit from time to time and not permanent fixtures.
WICKET: D Smith c Barath b Khan 37. 134/6. RECKLESS! INEXCUSABLE. Devon Smith stands at the crease for an eternity. he can't believe what he just did. It was a long hop outside off stump and what did he do? He smashed it - perhaps in over-exuberance - straight to Adrian Barath at cover. Poor shot. Shane Shillingford walks in to find his side in some serious trouble and with a big task to get them even close to get first innings points.
A very vocal crowd is on hand. Just a few hundred but they are into the game.
50 [. 1 . . . 1] 133/5: Smith 37*, Lewis 1*. Lewis off the mark with a swept single.
49ov [. . . . 2 W] 131/5: Smith 36*, Lewis 0*. Imran Khan strikes in his first over after lunch.
WICKET: A Fletcher stp wkt G Mohammed b Khan 61. 131/5. Once again it happens. Fletcher gets a fifty and fails to convert. He rushed down the track to Khan, missed and was stumped quite comfortably. Rawl Lewis comes in. Imran Khan moves to 30 wickets this season. That's the most by any bowler.
BOWLING CHANGE: Sherwin Ganga gets just one over from the Brian Lara Pavilion End. He's off and Imran Khan is on. Expect Khan and Jaggernauth to bowl in tandem for some time.
48ov [4 . . 1 . .] 129/4: Fletcher 59*, Smith 36*. Sharply turning delivery into Fletcher but he's equal to the task and gets onto the backfoot and cuts. Four runs. That's the shot of a talented batsman.
Amit Jaggernauth takes up the attack at the Gerry Gomez Media Center End. He will bowl from this end for the first time this match.
47ov [1 . 4 2 . 2] 124/4: Fletcher 54*, Smith 36*. Smith cuts for four.Just in front of point and it skips away to the boundary. Imran Khan gives up the run chase pretty early. He had no chance. Productive over. Nine runs from it.
Back after lunch. Sherwin Ganga to bowl to Andre Fletcher. Critical session, especially for the Windwards who need Fletcher and Devon Smith to put on a substantial partnership.
LUNCH: 115 for 4 with Andre Fletcher completing his half century and is on 53 and Captain Devon Smith is on 28. Windwards scored 92 runs in the session and lost three wickets, one to Navin Stewart and two run outs. Join us in 40 minutes for the resumption.
46ov [2 . . . . .] 115/4: Fletcher 53*, Smith 28*.
Last over before lunch coming up and Imran Khan will deliver it.
45ov [. . . 2 . .] 113/4: Fletcher 53*, Smith 26*.
44ov [. 1 . 2 . 4] 111/4: Fletcher 51*, Smith 26*. Smith drives off the backfoot through covers. It trickles over the boundary rope as the fielder is just beaten in the race.
43ov [2 . . . . 1] 104/4: Fletcher 50*, Smith 20*.
42ov [. . . . . .] 100/4: Fletcher 50*, Smith 16*. Consecutive maidens.
41ov [. . . . . .] 100/4: Fletcher 50*, Smith 16*. Maiden over by Ganga who is bowling over the wicket to the left handed Smith and getting the ball to go across the batsman. Smith is playing watchfully. He knows how critical his wicket is and this partnership is.
40ov [1 2 . . . 1] 100/4: Fletcher 50*, Smith 16*. Fletcher gets to his 50 quite easily with a single to long on. He waves the bat all around and gets a warm round of applause from the small Saturday morning crowd. Well played. He faced 87 and he hit six fours and a six. 100 up and Fletcher has scored exactly half that.
39ov [. 1 . . 4 1] 96/4: Fletcher 49*, Smith 13*. Fletcher sweeps and gets four. Well played. In control. Gets a single and moves to within one of fifty.
BOWLING CHANGE: Amit Jaggernauth v(16-6-31-1) is off and Sherwin Ganga is on for his first bowl of the match.
38ov [. . . . . 1] 90/4: Fletcher 44*, Smith 12*.
We had some technical difficulties early up, hence the delayed start today. We're still battling through and hope to have it running smoothly in a short while. In the meantime though we are able to bring you the score rather quickly but with limited commentary. Thanks for your patience.
37ov [. . 4 . 1 .] 89/4: Fletcher 44*, Smith 11*. Short delivery from Jaggernatuh and Smith is quickly onto the backfoot and pull it into the vacant mid-wicket boundary for four.
36ov [1 . . . . .] 84/4: Fletcher 44*, Smith 6*. Just a run to Smith off the first ball. A muscular hit to long off.
Critical partnership this for Windwards. These are their two in form batsmen and the Trinis won't want them to stick around for too long. Rawl Lewis is to come next and he a full fledged all rounder.
35ov [. . . . 4 2] 83/4: Fletcher 44*, Smith 5*. Fletcher cuts hard for four and gets two more with the same shot. He's scoring freely and marching to 50.
34ov [6 1 . . 4b] 77/4: Fletcher 38*, Smith 5*. Fletcher goes inside out again and gets the maximum this time. That would have been a six on most grounds in the world. That's a shot not very many batsmen can play successfully. Fletcher plays it with such ease. A big over for the Windwards. Khan beats Smith all ends up, even the keeper is beaten and 4 byes are the result.
33ov [. 1 1 . . .] 66/4: Fletcher 31*, Smith 5*.
32ov [. . . . . .] 64/4: Fletcher 30*, Smith 4*. Maiden by Imran Khan. That's his first maiden this innings.
31ov [. 4 . . . .] 64/4: Fletcher 30*, Smith 4*. Smith goes aerial to Jaggernauth for a straight four. Off the mark in style.
30ov [. . . W . .] 60/4: Fletcher 30*, Smith 0*.
WICKET: L Sebastien Run Out (Jaggernauth/Khan) 2. 60/4. Fletcher drives to cover and for some inexplicable reason Sebastien was all the way down to the striker's end in a flash. Fletcher hadn't even moved! Not sure why Sebastien thought there was a single there. Second run out for the morning. Finally Devon Smith appear.
29ov [. . . . . .] 60/3: Fletcher 30*, Sebastien 2*. Maiden by Jaggernauth.
28ov [. 4 . . . .] 60/3: Fletcher 30*, Sebastien 2*. No-nonsense Fletcher greet Khan with a punchy shot over wide mid on. 4. One bounce. Missed a six by less than a foot.
First bowling change. Imran Khan, the leggie, replaces Navin Stewart (11-3-24-1) at the Gerry Gomez Media Center
27ov [. . . . . .] 56/3: Fletcher 26*, Sebastien 2*. Maiden after drinks.
The umpires call on drinks. Stewart and Jaggernauth have bowled unchanged for the first hour.
26ov [1 . . . 4 4] 56/3: Fletcher 26*, Sebastien 2*. Inside out. Fletcher takes a big step down the pitch and lifts Stewart over wide-mid off for four. Two bounces. There was some Dwayne Bravo in that shot. As is customary, he poses for the camera. And another four. This time he goes straighter. Blast it back past Stewart in his follow through and Imran Khan from mid off can't run around quickly enough. That was hit very robustly by Fletcher. Fifty up for Windwards.
25ov [. 1 2 . . .] 47/3: Fletcher 18*, Sebastien 1*. Fletcher attempts a sweep and the ball lobs us just short of short fine leg where Daren Ganga is fielding but one cannot be quite sure what happened there. He seems to have been in another world or just did not pick up the ball at all. He missed the catch and then the ball bounced past him. Bad miss. Everyone's having a smile, including Ganga. It's probably the only thing they can do. Fletcher is lucky and he gets two runs too.
24ov [. . . . . .] 44/3: Fletcher 16*, Sebastien 0*. Maiden over by Navin Stewart who is keeping a tight line on off stump.
23ov [. 1W . . . 1] 44/3: Fletcher 16*, Sebastien 0*. A wicket in the over by jaggernauth. Second wicket for the morning to fall for Windwards while mystery surrounds the non-appearance of their captain and regular opener Devon Smith.
WICKET: C Emmanuel Run Out (Stewart/Jaggernauth) 8. 43/3. The two batsmen collide into each other mid-pitch going for the second run. It was tight and Emmanuel slipped badly after the collision and was well short of his ground. Good throw by Stewart from fine leg and Jaggernauth completed the easy run out. Liam Sebastien is the new batsman while Fletcher gets medical treatment from the T&T physio Ronald Rogers. Still no Devon Smith. Is he injured? We're not quite sure. Emmanuel made 8 from 70 balls and all his runs came in boundaries. After facing 68 dot balls the last way you'd want to get out is via the run out route.
22ov [. . . . 1 .] 42/2: Emmanuel 8*, Fletcher 14*.
21ov [. . 1 . . .] 41/2: Emmanuel 8*, Fletcher 13*.
Jaggernauth continues. He and Navin Stewart have bowled in tandem since the start this morning. Stewart has taken the wicket to fall and Jaggernauth is probing away.
20ov [. . 1 . . .] 40/2: Emmanuel 8*, Fletcher 12*. Sharp over by navin Stewart from the Gerry Gomez Media Center End. Just a single for Fletcher. Emmanuel has faced 66 deliveries and only two of those he has scored runs off - two boundaries.
19ov [1 . . . . .] 39/2: Emmanuel 8*, Fletcher 11*. Just a single from Jaggernauth's over bowled from the Brian Lara Pavilion End.
18ov [. . 4nb . . . .]38/2: Emmanuel 8*, Fletcher 10*. Emmanuel finally gets a second scoring shot.
17ov [. . . . 4 2] 33/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 10*. Emmanuel has faced 51 balls and has made one scoring shot, a boundary. He has faced fifty dot balls.
16ov [. . . 3 . .] 27/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 4*.
15ov [. . . . . .] 24/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 1*. Jaggernauth continues.
14ov [. 1 . . . .] 24/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 1*
13ov [. . . . . .] 23/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 0*.
12ov [. . . . . W] 23/2: Emmanuel 4*, Fletcher 0*. First wicket in the first over by Navin Stewart, removing nightwatchman Nelon Pascal without any additions to the overnight score.
WICKET: N Pascal lbw Stewart 11. 23/2. Pascal plays with his feet stuck at the crease and is trapped plumb lbw.
T&T BOWLING: Gabriel 3-1-5-0, Stewart 3-1-5-0, Jaggernauth 3-2-1-1, Khan 2-0-10-0
WIsld BOWLING: Pascal 5-1-24-0, Butler 5-0-18-0, Emmanuel 3-1-17-0, Peters 2-0-17-0, Shillingford 21-6-62-2, Lewis 30-6-81-5, Mathurin 13.3-3-35-2
STUMPS, DAY 1: Windwards are 23 for 1, 240 runs behind T&T's 263. It was Rawl Lewis' day as he took 5 for 81 from 30 overs. Adrian Barath top scored for T&T with 59. Sherwin Ganga made 39, Justin Guillen 37 and Darren Bravo 36. Join us tomorrow at 10 am for Day 2. Have a lovely evening.
11ov [. . . . . .] 23/1: Emmanuel 4*, Pascal 11*. Maiden ends the day's play.
Last over the day coming up. Jaggernauth to deliver to Emmanuel.
10ov [. 2 4 . . .] 23/1: Emmanuel 4*, Pascal 11*. Pascal hits with tremendous power over mid on for four. Fine shot. Looks like a top order batsman there.
9ov [. . . . . .] 17/1: Emmanuel 4*, Pascal 5*. Loud appeal for stumped v Emmanuel off the last delivery turned down by Umpire Luther Kelly of St Kitts.
8ov [. 4 . . . .] 17/1: Emmanuel 4*, Pascal 5*. Pascal - the nightwatchman - goes for a big shot. over mid off and gets a four.
BOWLING CHANGE: Stewart (3-1-5-0) off. Imran Khan on.
7ov [W . . . 1 .] 13/1: Emmanuel 4*, Pascal 1*. Jaggernauth cashes in on that wild swipe by Bascombe. Bascombe simply looked as though he did not want to be out there. He was merely pelting his bat. Strange from a man who is paying his first game.
WICKET: M Bascombe b Jaggernauth 6. 12/1. First ball from Jaggernauth Bascombe goes to lift him to Tobago, misses and is bowled. What a poor shot to play first up to the offie. Jaggernauth won't be unhappy though. He's loving it. Nightwatchman Nelon Pascal comes to the fore.
BOWLING CHANGE. Gabriel (3-1-5-0) off. Amit Jaggernauth on.
6ov [1 . . . . .] 12/0: Bascombe 6*, Emmanuel 4*.
Minimum of three overs remain but T&T are likely to get in a few more than that before the 5pm cut off time. Navin Stewart continues.
5ov [. . . . . .] 11/0: Bascombe 5*, Emmanuel 4*. Maiden by Gabriel who is forcing the batsman to play but not giving them room to play shots.
An adjustment has been made. Windwards have to face a minimum of 8 overs. They've faced 5 so far so a minimum of 3 remain.
4ov [. . 1lb . . 1lb] 11/0: Bascombe 5*, Emmanuel 4*. Maiden over by Stewart. Just two leg byes but those are not credited to his bowling figures. He's started well in First Class cricket.
3ov [. . 1 . . .] 9/0: Bascombe 5*, Emmanuel 4*. Bascombe takes a sharp single to mid off. Well run. Good backing up by Emmanuel. Gabriel hitting the bat hard. You can hear a loud crack every time the batsman plays a defensive shot and you can see their arms being pushed back at the point of contact. That's pace.
2ov [. . . . 4 .] 8/0: Bascombe 4*, Emmanuel 4*. Emmanuel hangs the bat outside off and gets a thick edge past slip. He may argue that it was an intentional shot and it would not be an argument without merit. Stewart has a bustling action to the wicket.
Navin Stewart will share the new ball on debut. His first over in regional First Class cricket. Craig Emmanuel facing.
1ov [. . . 4 . .] 4/0: Bascombe 4*, Emmanuel 0*. Bascombe stands tall on the back foot and pull that through mid wicket. Boundary to start the run chase. Bascombe though is swatting at deliveries pitched outside off stump and not connecting. It' not passing too far outside off.
Surprise, surprise. Devon Smith is not opening. It is Miles Bascombe and Craig Emmanuel. Windwards has had top order struggles so they are doing some shifting to try and have better results. Gabriel with the new ball. Watch him closely, he's got pace. Windwards have a minimum of 11 overs to negotiate before close of play. Let's see how they go about it.

80ov [. 4 W] 263 all out: G Mohammed 26*. Trinidad started their innings well, then had a slump and the lower order rallied to get them past 263. It is a score they can work with but nowhere near what they would have projected at the start of the day. The Windwards must now conquer the barrage of spinners to take first innings points.
WICKET: S Gabriel c Bascombe b Mathurin 11. 263 all out. Gabriel spoons it to short mid off.
79ov [. . . 1 . .] 259/9: G Mohammed 26*, Gabriel 7*. A nagging last wicket stand is frustrating the Windwards. They've added 19 so far.
78ov [1 . . 4 . 1] 258/9: G Mohammed 26*, Gabriel 6*. Gabriel uses all that muscle and goes over mid off. Power more than precision, it barely went over the head of the mid off fielder. All's well that ends well.
77v [1 . . . 1 1] 252/9: G Mohammed 25*, Gabriel 1*. 250 up and the Trinis will be most delighted to get there after they faltered badly mid-inning.
76ov [2 4 . . 2 1] 249/9: G Mohammed 23*, Gabriel 0*. Mohammed is keen on getting to that 250 mark and is just a run away.
75ov [1 . . 1W . .] 240/8: G Mohammed 14*, Gabriel 0*. The Windwards are making steady progress in wrapping up this Trini innings. They must be anxious to get the next wicket before 250 to take some added psychological advantage.
WICKET: A Jaggernauth Run Out Sub (Theophile) 3. 240/9. Mix up between the batsmen and Jaggernauth is left stranded mid pitch as they were looking then not looking for a second run.
74ov [. . . . . .] 238/8: G Mohammed 13*, Jaggernauth 2*.
73ov [1 1lb . . . .] 238/8: G Mohammed 13*, Jaggernauth 2*.
72ov [1 . . 1 . 2] 236/8: G Mohammed 13*, Jaggernauth 1*. DROPPED. Mohammed nudges wide of second slip but Garey Mathurin is unable to hang on. Shillingford kicks the turf in disappointment.
71ov [. 1 . . . .] 232/8: G Mohammed 10*, Jaggernauth 0*.
70ov [. . 4lb . . .] 231/8: G Mohammed 9*, Jaggernauth 0*.
Shillingford continues to Jaggernauth.
69ov [. 6 . W . .] 227/8: G Mohammed 9*, Jaggernauth 0*. Bye bye Miss Mary-Jane. See you tomorrow! Stewart goes on one knee and gets under the delivery. It goes into the upper deck of the Concrete Stand. He tries to do it again and is out. Lewis 25-6-73-5.
WICKET: N Stewart c Emmanuel b Lewis 6. Five-fer for Rawl Lewis. The old veteran does it again. Stewart tries to go for a second six in the over but does not get enough bat on it. It goes high and Craig Emmanuel comes in from long off and takes the catch. Well caught. It was quite clear what Stewart's orders were. Give it a heave ho big boy. Amit Jaggernauth comes in.
68ov [. 2 1 W . .] 221/7: G Mohammed 9*, Stewart 0*. Shillingford makes the breakthrough. That's been Trinidad's downfall all day. Just as a partnership was blossoming a batsman threw away his hand and the Windwards came right back into it.
WICKET: S Ganga c Butler b Shillingford 39. 221/7. Sherwin Ganga gives it away as well. He was batting well and had a half century for the taking instead he hits the ball straight to Deighton Butler at long off. Navin Stewart comes in now to take strike but he won't do so right away. The batsmen crossed so Gibran Mohammed will face.
67ov [. 1 . 4b 1 .] 218/6: S Ganga 39*, G Mohammed 6*.
66ov [. . . . . .] 212/6: S Ganga 38*, G Mohammed 5*. Maiden over by Shillingford who working hard on getting some purchase from the pitch.
65ov [. . . . 2 1] 212/6: S Ganga 38*, G Mohammed 5*.
64ov [. . . . . .] 209/5: S Ganga 38*, G Mohammed 2*. Maiden. Loud lbw shout off the first delivery turned down by Umpire Dhieranidranauth Somwaru of Guyana. What a first name that is. He must have some Sri Lankan connections.
Shillingford to Ganga from the Brian Lara Pavilion End.
63ov [2 . . . 4 3] 209/6: S Ganga 38*, G Mohammed 2*. Ganga pulls a short delivery from Lewis. 4.
We're back after tea folks. The Trini's have got a huge jobs on their hands to press forward from 200/6. The Windwards surely want to bat this evening and to do that they need four wickets. Rawl Lewis (21-6-53-4) is start off from the Gerry Gomez Media Center End. Sherwin Ganga is facing.
TEA: 200/6. That session was entirely Windwards'. They grabbed the initiative at the very start of the session and never let it go. They took four wickets and Trinidad scored 92 runs. Windwards are now in the driving seat and the Trinis have a job on their hands as they aim to battle back. Their lower order has some substance with the bat. Join us in 20 minutes time for the final session.
62ov [1 . . . . .] 200/6: S Ganga 29*, G Mohammed 2*. 200 up as Ganga turns into the on side for a single. That's the last over before tea then.
Final over before tea to be bowled by Shane Shillingford.
61ov [. . . . . .] 199/6: S Ganga 28*, G Mohammed 2*. Maiden by Lewis as the batsmen spend time engaged in gamesmanship. They had two mid pitch conferences trying to use up time to ensure that there is only one more over before tea and not two.
60ov [. . 1 . . 2] 199/6: S Ganga 28*, G Mohammed 2*.
59ov [2 . 1 . 1 .] 196/6: S Ganga 26*, G Mohammed 1*. Trinidad will look to survive until tea and come out in the final session and push for 250 and onwards. Just 8 minutes before the break so Ganga and Mohammed will more than likely look to bat time.
58ov [. . W . . .] 192/6: S Ganga 23*, G Mohammed 0*. Wicket maiden for Mathurin. His first wicket of the match. He enjoyed that because he thought he had caught Khan cleanly off Lewis in the previous over. This morning the Trinis were flowing along but either side of lunch they were pegged back and now the Windwards are in full and absolute command.
WICKET: I Khan lbw Mathurin 14. 192/6. Mathurin gets his man straight after the appeal for a catch was turned down. He bowls a shooter which Khan plays back to and misses. He's taken on the pad and that looks as though it would have missed the off stump and missed the leg stump as it would have flattened the middle stump. Gibran Mohammed comes out now to replace Imran Khan.
57ov [4 . . . . 3] 192/5: S Ganga 23*, Khan 14*. Well well, Lewis thought he had his fifth wicket. Imran Khan prod forward and the ball was taken at silly point. The Standing Umpire's view was obscured by the silly mid off fielder so he could not tell. He consulted with the square leg umpire and rules it not out. The Windwards fielders are extremely unhappy, they think that was out and they are furious with Imran Khan for standing his ground. It's obvious they think he should have walked. It was Garey Mathurin who was the catcher(?).
56ov [. . . . 4 .] 185/5: S Ganga 23*, Khan 7*. Ganga goes on the backfoot and gives himself room to cut. 4. He's growing in confidence and stature at the crease. He knows that for his team to post a competitive total they need him to bat well and get a big half century at least.
Mathurin switches ends. He's now bowling at the Brian Lara Pavilion End after Rawl Lewis returned to the Gerry Gomez Media Center End for the previous over.
55ov [. 1 . 2 . .] 181/5: S Ganga 19*, Khan 7*.
54ov [. . . . 4 .] 178/5: S Ganga 18*, Khan 5*. Khan goes straight and high. One bounce into the boundary. 4.
53ov [. 1 . . . .] 174/5: S Ganga 18*, Khan 1*.
52ov [. . . . . 4] 173/5: S Ganga 18*, Khan 0*. "Shot in the dark" whispers someone in the Gerry Gomez Media Center. Sherwin Ganga goes back to Shillingford and it slides off the face of the bat and runs away through third man for four. "Shot in the dark" was a bit too harsh. He wasn't in control but neither was he clueless.
51ov [. . . . . 1] 169/5: S Ganga 14*, Khan 0*.
Change in bowling. Garey Mathurin replaces Rawl Lewis 17-5-39-4.
50ov [. . . W . .] 168/5: S Ganga 13*, Khan 0*. Wicket maiden for Shillingford. Now the Windwards have taken charge. The entire complexion of the game has changed from 90 without loss when Barath and Guillen were going strong.
Imran Khan is the new batsman.
WICKET: D Bravo c Smith b Shillingford 36. 168/5. That spun and Bravo reached for it and got a healthy edge to first slip where Smith is just snapping them up. He takes another, that's his third. First wicket for Shillignford. That was a good delivery, drew Bravo into the stroke and he misses out.
49ov [. . . . . 1] 168/4: Bravo 36*, S Ganga 13*. Single to Bravo allows him to retain the strike.
48ov [. 4 . . . .] 167/4: Bravo 35*, S Ganga 13*. Ganga goes down on one keen and lifts Shillingford over mid wicket, two bounces into the boundaries.
47ov [. 1 . . 4 4] 163/4: Bravo 35*, S Ganga 9*. Bravo drives supremely. It was straight as an arrow then pulls Lewis. Consecutive fours.
46ov [. . 1 1 . .] 154/4: Bravo 27*, S Ganga 8*. That over takes us to drinks. Ganga has shown positive intent early and Bravo is playing a measured hand, striking boundaries every few overs while playing low risk scoring shots in between.
19 overs were bowled in the hour after lunch. They're getting through the overs in a rush. All spin.
45ov [. . . 2 . .] 152/4: Bravo 26*, S Ganga 7*.
44ov [. . . . . .] 150/4: Bravo 26*, S Ganga 5*. Maiden by Shillingford who is the top Windwards wicket-taker this season with 22 wickets.
43ov [. 4 . . . .] 150/4: Bravo 26*, S Ganga 5*. Sherwin Ganga cuts in front of point and the fielders gives up the run chase pretty early. 4. 150 up.
42ov [1 . 1 . . .] 146/4: Bravo 26*, S Ganga 1*. Ganga turns into the on side and gets off the mark.
41ov [2 4 . W . .] 144/4: Bravo 25*, S Ganga 0*. Mohammed comes down the track Lewis and goes over mid on. One bounce into the boundary in front the concrete stand and that's 4. And then the wicket. Lewis gets four and he's on a roll. He's taken all the Trini wickets to fall.
WICKET: J Mohammed c Butler b Lewis 17. 144/4. Mohammed drives but could not keep it on the ground at Deighton Butler at short cover takes a thunderous catch. Barely scoops it off the ground with his left hand. That was a darn good catch but the old boy Butler. Lewis waves his forearms in the in celebration as Mohammed walks away with head bowed. He has missed out on a good pitch after getting a start. Sherwin Ganga walks in.
40ov [. 4 . . . .] 138/3: Bravo 25*, J Mohammed 11*. Bravo cuts with more power than grace. Fielder gets a hand to it at point but can't stop it. Rushes past him and into the boundary.
Bowling change. Mathurin is taken off and Shane Shillingford comes on at the Brian Lara Pavilion End. Mathurin 7-2-21-0.
39ov [. . . . . .] 134/3: Bravo 21*, J Mohammed 11*. Lewis returns to bowling maidens. 12-5-17-3.
38ov [1 4 . . . .] 134/3: Bravo 21*, J Mohammed 11*. Bravo stands at the crease and launches into that. Straight. Over Mathurin's head. On small bounce into the boundary. He must be disappointed. It was hit with some power and it is evident he was looking for maximum.
37ov [2 . . . . .] 129/3: Bravo 17*, J Mohammed 10*.
36ov [. . . 4 . 2] 127/3: Bravo 15*, J Mohammed 10*. Cut away twice by Mohammed, first he gets 4 then two more. He's opening up his shoulders now. He must realize that there is nothing in the pitch to cause him worry.
35ov [. . . . 1 .] 121/3: Bravo 15*, J Mohammed 4*. Mohammed breaks the string of Lewis maidens with a single into the on side.
34ov [6 . . . . .] 120/3: Bravo 15*, J Mohammed 3*. Nonchalant! Bravo takes just a shimmy down the track and launches Mathurin over mid wicket. SIX!
33ov [. . . . . .] 114/3: Bravo 9*, J Mohammed 3*. Three maidens on the trot for Lewis. This is a critical period of play. Windwards have taken the momentum by capturing the wicket of Barath and now they want to press on while the Trini batsmen will try to work their way back into a dominant position.
32ov [. . . 2 1 .] 114/3: Bravo 9*, J Mohammed 3*. Mohammed gets off the strike working the ball for two into the on side.
31ov [. . . . . .] 111/3: Bravo 9*, Mohammed 0*. Now two maidens on the trot for Lewis.
30ov [. . . . 1 .] 111/3: Bravo 9*, J Mohammed 0*. Just a single to Bravo with whom the Trini batting hopes rest predominantly. Windwards in control since the resumption.
29ov [. . . . . .] 110/3: Bravo 8*, J Mohammed 0*. Consecutive maidens now. T&T have lost their set batsman and now must rebuild.
28ov [. . . . . .] 110/3: Bravo 8*, J Mohammed 0*. Garey Mathurin continues with his left arm spin after lunch and delivers a maiden.
27ov [. 2 W . . .] 110/3: Bravo 8*, J Mohammed 0*. A third wicket for Lewis and he picks it up straight after lunch. Brilliant start to the session for Windwards.
WICKET: A Barath c Smith b Lewis 59. 110/3. Trying to late cut, gets an edge and good low catch by Smith at first slip. Barath goes immediately after lunch. Bad loss for T&T. He slaps his pads with the bat in disappointment.
Back after lunch. Barath and Bravo to resume. Barath facing to Lewis.
LUNCH: 108/2. Barath 57*, Bravo 8*. It was Trinidad & Tobago's session but the Windwards would be happy that they picked up a couple of wickets courtesy of some indiscretion by Justin Guillen (37) and Daren Ganga (0). Rawl Lewis has 2 for 12 from 5 overs. Barath has batted rather well for his half century. He's got 57 and Darren Bravo is with him on 8. Join us in about 40 minutes time for the continuation. If this pair continues to bat the next session could be a real treat.
26ov [. . . . . .] 108/2: Barath 57*, Bravo 8*. A maiden takes us to lunch.
Last over before lunch coming up. Garey Mathurin will do the honours at the Brian Lara Pavilion End. It's left arm finger spin.
25ov [1 . . . . .] 108/2: Barath 57*, Bravo 8*. Just a single to Bravo then Barath shuts up shop for the rest of the over.
24ov [. 1 . . 1 1] 107/2: Barath 57*, Bravo 7*. Turning over the strike with relative ease. They have to consolidate after the sudden loss of those two wickets. Barath is being a bit more measured now, ensuring that he does not lose his wicket before lunch which is fast approaching.
23ov [1 . . . . 1] 104/2: Barath 56*, Bravo 5*. From this distance there is absolutely nothing to suggest that it is not Adrian Barath and his mentor Brian Lara batting out there. Darren Bravo is Lara reincarnate, it's as simple as that. Now he needs to get the runs to match up.
Rawl Lewis continues. 3-1-9-2. He has delivered two wickets for the Windwards and boy oh boy did they need them. Barath and Guillen were marching on like nobody's business until Guillen donated his wicket.
22ov [. . 1 nb 4 . .] 102/2: Barath 55*, Bravo 4*. Bravo gets off the mark with a steer past slip which slips away to the boundary for four. Delicate shot. He was in control all the way.
21ov [. 4 . . . 1] 96/2: Barath 54*, Bravo 0*. Barath 50 off 75 balls with eight fours. He brings it up with a vicious cut for four. He's batted with such ease. Hardly looks like a man playing his first match this season and certainly no signs of him coming back from an injury. He's in good touch.
20ov [. 1 . . . .] 91/2: Barath 49*, D Bravo 0*. Barath within a single of a return fifty. Bravo plays watchfully to Shillingford as he has a look at the pitch and gets a feel for how it is playing.
19ov [. 4 . W . W] 90/2: Barath 48*, D Bravo 0*. That's the over the doctor must have ordered for Windwards. The veteran Lewis makes a double blow but the Trini batsmen did give their hands away. Guillen more so. One cold probably understand Ganga anxious to get off the mark.
WICKET: D Ganga c Smith b Lewis 0. 90/2. Ganga looks to play a tame cut to get off the mark Gets an edge and Devon Smith takes a blinder at first slip one-handedly! Ganga goes for a second ball duck and the new batsman is Darren Bravo. Double blow for Windwards. They needed that. They really did. This should be a treat now though. Barath and Bravo together. They are two of the most exciting young batsmen in the Caribbean at the moment.
WICKET: J Guillen c Mathurin b Lewis 37. 90/1. Gives it away! Oh Justin Guillen what have you done? He simply tugs it to Gary Mathurin at long on who just runs in a few paces and takes a low, well judged catch. That was uncalled for. He could have easily taken the single in stead. Could have done just about anything he wanted to that delivery. He chooses to get out. Lewis gets the breakthrough Windiwards were so desperate for. Daren Ganga is the new man.
18ov [. . . 4 . .] 86/0: Barath 48*, Guillen 33*. Barath gets to the pitch of this Shillingford delivery and lifts him over mid wicket. One, two bounces. Four. He moves to with two of a half century in his first match this season.
This is by some distance T&T's best opening stand this season. Previous best was between Guillen and Simmons who put on 35 v CCC and that was since the first round in Jamaica.
17ov [. . . . . .] 82/0: Barath 44*, Guillen 33*. Lewis starts with a maiden. Spot on. We've had four bowling changes inside 17 overs. Windwards are playing every card in their hunt to break this partnership. It must be a big worry for them now.
Devon Smith is ringing in the changes. Emmanuel is now taken off at the Gerry Gomez Media Center End and Rawl Lewis, the veteran leg spinner comes on for his first bowl of the match.
16ov [1 . . 3 . 1] 82/0: Barath 44*, Guillen 33*. Guillen greet Shillingford with a lofted swack - yes a swack - over cover. He doesn't want him to settle. The Trini openers have an obvious plan to try and dominate the bowlers early in their spell and not let them settle.
Third bowling change. Shane Shillingford the off spinner takes overs from Peters at the Brian Lara Pavilion End. Peters 3-0-17-0. Shillingford bowling with two men under the helmet, a slip, mid wicket, mid on, mid off, cover and backward point for Guillen.
15ov [2 4 . 4 nb . .] 77/0: Barath 41*, Guillen 31*. DROPPED! Lapse in concentration. It was a short delivery which had some width but it climbed on Barath. He should have left it alone but looked to cut high over gully. Got an edge which went high to Andre Fletcher's right. He got a glove to it but was really slow to react. It screams away behind him to the boundary. Remember this is Fletcher's first game this season as keeper. He's been playing as a batsman previously. Two balls later Barath guides one between second slip and gully for four. That third man region has been profitable for both batsmen. Devon Smith has got to look to plug it soon.
14ov [2 4 . 1 1 .] 66/0: Barath 31*, Guillen 31*. Guillen slices one off the outer half of the bat. Through gully, blisters through the vacant third man region. Four. He is looking to be aggressive v Peters who can be a dangerous customer when he gets a hint of swing anything off the seam. Guillen is clearly looking to dominate him early and dent his confidence.
Looks like it will be a long day for the Windwards with this strengthened Trini batting line up. The openers are looking solid and doing it easy. Barath brings so much to the table. He's quite adept at building an innings. And to think that they are playing without Simmons, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo!
13ov [. . . . . .] 58/0: Barath 30*, Guillen 24*. Emmanuel produces a maiden but nothing to trouble Barath. Onto the front foot everytime, head behind the line of the ball and plays back up the pitch.
Drinks taken. A chance for the Windwards to review strategy. They need a breakthrough but they are meeting the broad bats of Barath the Windies opener and Guillen who continues to look in fine touch. They did get Guillen but it was off a no ball.
12ov [. . 4 1 1 3] 58/0: Barath 30*, Guillen 24*. Fifty partnership up with a 4. Barath cuts past backward point. Not that you didn't know but this young kid could bat. He's looking so easy at the crease, as though he's been batting for a day already. Pulls the last delivery in front of square for three.
Double bowling change. Swapping of left arm seamers really. Kenroy Peters is on for Butler 5-0-18-0. Pascal 5-1-24-0.
11ov [. . 4 . nb 1 nb .] 49/0: Barath 22*, Guillen 23*. Barath guides one through the vacant third man region. Easy four that.
First bowling change of the morning. Grenadian Nelon Pascal is off and St Lucian Craig Emmanuel is on. Emmanuel will bowl some brisk medium pace.
10ov [. . 2 2 . 4] 42/0: Barath 17*, Guillen 23*.
We're having some technical challenges with the live updates from Couva. Leewards have won the toss and are batting. After 8 overs they are 25 without loss. Kieran Powell is 15* and Montcon Hodge 8*.
9ov [. . . 2 . .] 34/0: Barath 17*, Guillen 15*. Barath gets two from a misfield. Driven to mid off scampered through for one and the misfield allows him a safe second.
Pascal continues. He's got a rhythmic approach to the crease but he's got an arced run up. From the top of his mark he runs as it to point then curves back to the crease.
8ov [. . 1 . . 1] 32/0: Barath 15*, Guillen 15*. A return to singles after two fours were taken off the previous over. Pacing their partnership well are Barath and Guillen.
7ov [. 1 . 1 4 4] 30/0: Barath 14*, Guillen 14*. Glorious cover drives by Barath to end the over. He's been given just a hint of width outside off stump and he's reached forward and cashed in.
6ov [1 . . . . 1] 20/0: Barath 5*, Guillen 13*. Quite over of mostly defensive strokeplay. Butler finding his measure now. He doesn't have nearly as much pace as Pascal but not afraid to squeeze in one or two short balls.
5ov [. nb . 1 . 1 .] 18/0: Barath 4*, Guillen 12*. Pascal is bending his back and getting some results but as he is striving for pace he's is overstepping. Has done it twice and robbed himself of a wicket on the first occasion.
We've got a small crowd in but it is far more than has been at the start of any match this season. Things are looking up. Just about 150 or so but more than we've had in previous rounds for the starts of matches. They're mostly in the KFC/RBTT/Carib Beer Stand. A few people in the Concrete Stand as well.
4ov [. 1 . 1 1 .] 15/0: Barath 3*, Guillen 11*. Three singles but Guillen was looking for a boundary off the last ball. It was short and he hooked but missed. It had some pace on it and Guillen was late on the shot.
3ov [. 4 4 . nb . .] 12/0: Barath 1*, Guillen 10*. Guillen drives crisply and finds the gap between extra cover and mid off. That was lovely timing. And now he goes squarer, to the left of extra cover. Oh my! Guillen is caught off a no ball. It was a short lifting delivery and he fended at it. It was flying past Liam Sebastien at second slip who dived full length and took a one handed stunner! He was about to celebrate when he saw Umpire Kelly's hand up indicating no ball. Horrible. An exciting over.
2ov [1 1 . 1 . .] 3/0: Barath 1*, Guillen 2*. Both batsmen off the mark. Guillen turned to mid wicket for 1 and Barath turned finer to fine leg. Butler yet to hit his straps proper.
We've got three slips, a gully, backward point, mid off, mid on, backward square and a man on the fine leg boundary for Butler bowling to Guillen.
A very lengthy delay as Barath gets extensive attention from physiotherapist Ronald Rogers. Apparently he did not quite get his foot all the way out of that wicked yorker and it belted into his toe. He's up and walking around now. He'll have some time as he is at the non-striker's end.
Deighton Butler will share the new ball with Pascal. He will bowl at the Brian Lara Pavilion End.
1ov [. . . . . .] 0/0: Barath 0*, Guillen 0*. Maiden over to start off by Pascal. Save for one delivery which was wide of off stump it was testing. Two yorkers and three deliveries which shaped away from Barath. A lesser batsman could have been in the pavilion. One of those two yorkers was wicked and Barath barely got his toe out the way and his bat down to block it out.
Nelon Pascal will take the new ball and he will bowl to Adrian Barath. Justin Guillen is at the non-striker's end. Pascal is starting off from the Gerry Gomez Media Center End.
TOSS: Daren Ganga won the toss and Trinidad & Tobago will bat first. So we will see Adrian Barath first up. Justin Guillen will partner him with Darren Bravo coming first down.
So the men out for T&T are off spinner Sunil Narine and all rounder Daron Cruickshank while Windwards have left out opening batsman Tyrone Theophile and wicketkeeper Lyndon James. Andre Fletcher will take the gloves.
T&T XI: Daren Ganga (captain), Adrian Barath, Justin Guillen, Darren Bravo, Sherwin Ganga, Jason Mohammed, Imran Khan, Gibran Mohammed (wicketkeeper), Navin Stewart, Amit Jaggernauth, Shannon Gabriel.
WINDWARDS XI: Devon Smith (captain), Miles Bascombe, Andre Fletcher (wicketkeeper), Craig Emmanuel, Liam Sebastien, Rawl Lewis, Gary Mathurin, Shane Shillingford, Kenroy Peters, Deighton Butler, Nelon Pascal.
9:20am: News just reaching us is that at 9:45am the President of Trinidad and Tobago the Honourable Professor George Maxwell Richards will meet the players from both teams. The toss is coming up in about ten minutes or so at 9:30.
The officials for this match are former Test umpire Clyde Cumberbatch who will serve as the match referee and Luther Kelly and Dhieranidranauth Somwaru will officiate in the middle. The third official is Stuart Gopaul. Claude Phillip will adjudicate the Man-of-the-Match.
The very exciting news for the Trinis and fans of T&T and all West Indies is that Adrian Barath is back and so too is Darren Bravo. Both have returned from injury and will be playing their first match of the season. Watch out for Shannon Gabriel as well because he's got pace. He's the fastest bowler going around in Trinidad & Tobago at the moment.
The squad changes for Windwards are Gary Mathurin and Miles Bascombe coming in for Keddy Lesporis and Donwell Hector.
