Full strength Guyana look to reverse fortunes

Georgetown, Guyana: West Indies middle order stalwarts Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be expected to shoulder the batting burden for Guyana in the WICB Four Day Tournament if they are to reverse their 2009 fortunes when they finished at the bottom of the points table in what was their worst year in regional cricket. Sarwan will lead the 13 man squad which has drawn the bye for the opening round in Jamaica but will face highly-rated Trinidad and Tobago in Antigua in round two. The match will be an historic encounter as it will be the first non-limited overs match played under lights in the Caribbean and will also utilized pink balls another first for the Caribbean. Guyana’s batting will not be solely reliant on the seasoned international duo though as they also have West Indian pair of left hander Narsingh Deonarine and experienced regional right hander Travis Dowlin in the line up. Deonarine had a record breaking season in 2009 when he scored more than 1000 runs which resulted in his recall to the Windies team while Dowlin too debuted for the Windies in 2009, playing four Tests and six One Day Internationals, scoring a century and six fifties in Windies colours. Guyana’s bowling department will once again look to veteran pacer Esaun Crandon to do damage with the new ball along with talented pacer Brandon Bess. The spin bowling will be taken care of by rookie duo of Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul with support from all rounder Royston Crandon and Deonarine. In addition to Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Deonarine, Dowlin and Royston Crandon, the squad includes left handed opener Sewnarine Chattergoon as the other player with Windies experience. Squad: Ramnaresh Sarwan (Captain), Sewnarine Chattergoon, Travis Dowlin, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Derwin Christian (wicketkeeper), Trevor Benn, Esaun Crandon, Veerasammy Permaul, Brandon Bess, Devendra Bishoo. Head Coach: Rabindranauth Seeram, Manager: Carl Moore.
