Barbados v JamaicaFri Feb 19 - Mon Feb 22 10:00 Local/13:00 GMT Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground, Trinidad So we have a title race still on our hands as Barbados (57 points) and Jamaica (48 points) are the remaining contenders. Barbados have finished their six matches and Jamaica need to win their remaining match against Trinidad & Tobago to stop Barbados from claiming the 2010 crown. That contest begins next Friday at Progress Park in Grenada. We will provide live text commentary from that crucial showdown as well. Please join us then. Final scores: Jamaica 226 (David Bernard 55, Tamar Lambert 41; Corey Edwards 6/41, Sulieman Benn 2/69) & 120 (Brenton Parchment 28; Pedro Collins 5/32, Sulieman Benn 4/50). Barbados 293 (Dale Richards 67, Sulieman Benn 54; Tamar Lambert 3/63) & 54/0 (Dale Richards 31 not out, Kraigg Brathwaite 20 not out). VICTORY: Barbados win by 10 wickets!!!! 9ov [. 1 . . . 4] 54/0: Richards 31*, Brathwaite 20*. Brathwaite ends this one-sided contest with a classic cover drive for four off Dawes that advertises why he is rated so highly. 8ov [. . 1 . 4 .] 49/0: Richards 30*, Brathwaite 16*. Brathwaite late dabs to the vacant third man off Bernard.

Guyana v Leeward IslandsFri Feb 19 - Mon Feb 22 10:00 Local/13:00 GMT National Cricket Centre, Couva, Trinidad Leewards won the toss and elected to bat. LI 192 all out Well no suprise there, Chanderpaul receiving the Man of the Match Award for his 105* and 32* holding both innings together as clearly he was the difference in the match. Other notable performances, E. Crandon 8-73, D. Bishoo 7-105 and O. Banks 60 and 49 in the match. So from us here at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva thank you for joining us and be sure to tune in next weekend for what looks to be a Championship Deciding match Between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. Good Bye. Again, what could've been had the Leewards scored another 75 runs, would've made for a very interesting day. Stay tuned for the Presentation Ceremony to find out who receives the man of the match award, my money is on Chanderpaul, who played two crucial knocks in both innings and hasn't been dismissed, man he loves to bat! RESULT: LI 192 Guy 287 LI 192 Guy 99/5 Guyana Wins by 5 Wickets. 46ov [4 ] 99/5 Chanderpaul 32* Bishoo 0* Well there it is, Liburd drops short and Chanderpaul cuts infront of square for a boundary to get the remaining runs needed! 45ov [. . . . . .] 95/5 Chanderpaul 28* Bishoo 0* Bishoo seems to be in no big a hurry like Christian was as he sees out that Athanaze over. Still 3 needed!

RESULT: Jamaica win by an innings and 27 runs. Jamaica take 12 points and Guyana do not get any. Jamaica lengthen their lead on the points table by moving to 36, which is the maximum after 3 rounds and Guyana slip to the other end of the table with just 3 points after 2 games. The Jamaicans batted splendidly, primarily centurions Wavell Hinds and Carlton Baugh Jr. Miller got six wickets in the first innings and Bernard got a similar number in the second innings. The Guyanese batting was mostly inept and they lose, embarrasssingly, by an innings on what is unquestionably a batting track and which remained so until the end of the game. Veerasammy Permaul can hold his head high. He took a five wicket haul and batted with aplomb in the second innings. Assad Fudadin top scored in both innings but needed to carry on and got out just as he should have been looking to press on. Jamaica now return home as they have the bye for the fourth round which is here in Barbados while Guyana will tackle CCC at 3Ws Oval starting Friday. Do take care until.
87ov [. . . W] 236 all out. Bess 0*. Bernard starred in the second innings matching Miller's 6fer in the first innings. Bernard 16.4-5-40-6. Miller adds another 2 wickets, taking 8 in the match. Miller 24-6-50-2.
WICKET: V Permaul b Bernard 42. 236 all out. That does it. Permaul became ultra aggressive looking to rush to a fifty but swipes wildly and misses. When he looks back he sees his stumps shattered. Permaul batted wonderfully to delay the inevitable but in the end the game is over before lunch on the final day.
Bernard back at the Vasbert Drakes End replacing Daren Powell.
86ov [4 . . . 1 W] 236/8: Permaul 42*, Bishoo 18*. Permaul sweeps and has entered the 40s with a boundary over square leg. Permaul batting for a promotion in the order. Permaul is batting exceptionally well.
WICKET: D Bishoo c Bernard b Brown 18. 236/9. Just before lunch Bishoo loses the plot and tries to hit a straight six. He skies it instead and Bernard settles under it at deep mid on and waits for ages before taking a comfortable catch. Just one wicket now for the Jamaicans to get. The - to be politically correct - "unslim" lady is clearing her throat as Brandon Bess, the last man comes out.
85ov [. 4 1 . . .] 231/8: Permaul 37*, Bishoo 18*. Booming lofted drive over cover. Permaul launches into that and sends it for a ride to the boundary and Powell is left to stand in dismay mid-pitch.
84ov [. 1lb 1 . . .] 226/8: Permaul 32*, Bishoo 18*. The spin twins - Permaul and Bishoo - putting up a stern fight, showing their frontline batsmen how it should be done.
Guyana captain Sewnarine Chattergoon has done much batting during the course of this match. Unfortunately for Guyana most of it has been in the nearby nets and not out in the middle.
83ov [. . . . 1 .] 224/8: Permaul 31*, Bishoo 18*. Just a single to Bishoo, edging wide of slip.
82ov [. 4 . 4 . .] 223/8. Permaul 31*, Bishoo 17*. Permaul goes downtown. Straight over the bowler's head. Bernard gives chase from deep mid off but can't cut it off. 4. Permaul sweeps, behind square and Brendan Nash at square leg can only watch it go by and jog down to the boundary to retrieve.
Second bowling change of the morning. Miller off, Odean Brown on.
81ov [. . 4 1b . .] 215/8: Permaul 23*, Bishoo 17*. Another sizzling cover drive. Picture perfect by Veerasammy Permaul. He went down like Boyz II Men on bended knees and smashed that through covers. He's a feisty young player, unrelenting and aggressive when he bowls and positive and resistant when he bats.
80ov [1 . 4 . . .] 210/8: Permaul 19*, Bishoo 17*. Exquisite that was from Bishoo. Threaded it through covers and it runs away for 4. The shot of a man who knows how to tandle a piece of willow.
79ov [. . . . . .] 205/8: Permaul 18*, Bishoo 13*. Miaden by Powell with a loud lbw shout on the 4th delivery but there may have been an inside edge by Bishoo and turned down by Umpire Dalton Holder.
78ov [. . 1 4 . 1] 205/8: Permaul 18*, Bishoo 13*. 200 up with a single to long off by Permaul. Bishoo then drives sweetly through covers for four.
77ov [. . . 1 . 4] 199/8: Permaul 17*. Bishoo 8*. Bishoo squeezes a yorker out and it flies past Parchment at first slip. That looked like a catch from this distance but the Jamaican fielders and the bowler - Daren Powell - have no negative reaction so he may have played that into the ground before ti went to slip.
76ov [. 1 . . . .] 194/8: Permaul 16*, Bishoo 4*. Just a run to Permaul.
Miller continues to Permaul.
75ov [. . 4 . . .] 193/8: Permaul 15*, Bishoo 4*. Bishoo off the mark with a steer past second slip for 4. Powell concentrating on the channel outside off stump.
Change of bowling. Daren Powell is on for David Bernard Jr.
74ov [. . . . . 6] 189/8: Permaul 15*, Bishoo 0*. Six over cow corner to end the over by Permaul. Bishoo not yet off the mark.
73ov [. . . . 2 1] 183/8: Permaul 9*, Bishoo 0*. Permaul drove high just too high for Miller at cover. He leaps and parries it behind him but too far behind to get back and catch it before going to grass. Excellent effort. We've seen that scenario before in this game. 2 runs the end result. Drinks.
72ov [. . . . . .] 180/8: Permaul 6*, Bishoo 0*. Miller maiden.
71ov [. . . . . .] 180/8: Permaul 6*, Bishoo 0*. Another accurate over from Bernard which keeps Permaul at bay. He's one of the few Guyanese who played purposefully. He's putting a high premium on his wicket.
70ov [. 1 . . . .] 180/8: Permaul 6*, Bishoo 0*. Just a single to Permaul off that Miller over.
69ov [. 1 . . . .] 179/8: Permaul 5*, Bishoo 0*. First ball spooned just short of Lambert at mid wicket but he's not the most agile chap so could not get forward quickly enough to take the low catch. That would have been taken by a more mobile fielder. Lambert hangs back and waits for the bounce to field the ball. All the Jamaican fielders have their hands to their heads but are silent as Lambert is the skipper.
68ov [1 W . . . .] 178/8: Permaul 4*, Bishoo 0*. Miller gets his 8th wicket and finishes the over with a sharp bouncing delivery which Baugh has some difficulty gathering.
WICKET: R Crandon c Lambert b Miller 4. 178/8. Goes back and cuts and gets and edge and Lambert snaps it up at first slip. The Guyanese lower order is surrenderly meekly. They seem to have other business to attend to today.
67ov [2 . . W W 4] 177/7: R Crandon 4*, Permaul 4*. Five wickets for David Bernard Jr. An excellent showing by him and he must be wondering how he did not make the sqaud to Australia. Surely he must have been close to being selected but there are only 15 places. 5 for 35.
WICKET: E Crandon lbw Bernard 0. 173/7. First ball! Crandon's not fully awake yet it seems. He's not ready to bat yet, stuck at the crease is trapped in front. It's going to be over before lunch now surely.
WICKET: D Christian b Bernard 7. 173/6. Bowled him!. Pitch outside off stump and coming back into middle and off stump and Christian is caught on the crease in no man's land. The ball crashes into the stumps and that's that. Esuan Crandon joins his brother Royston.
66ov [. . . . 1 1] 171/5: R Crandon 4*, Christian 7*.
65ov [. . . nb . . 2] 169/5: R Crandon 3*, Christian 6*.
64ov [. . 1 . . 2] 165/5: R Crandon 3*, Christian 4*. High and hard goes Christian and barely falls short of Wavell Hinds running around on the boundary from mid wicket.
63ov [. . . . . .] 163/5: R Crandon 2*, Christian 2*. Second maiden from Bernard for the day.
62ov [W 2 . . . .] 163/5: R Crandon 2*, Christian 2*. Miller gets an immediate breakthrough and it is only a matter of time now.
WICKET: N Deonarine c Lambert b Miller 13. 161/5. Short ball and Deonarine's eyes light up and he goes on the backfoot and pulls it hard but picks out Lambert at mid wicket. First ball Miller strikes. It was a loosener. So poor was the delivery that Miller seemed embarrassed to celebrate the success and the Jamaicans were surprised that it was a wicket. They seemed to be looking in the direction of the boundary to see where the ball was. Guyana in a deep, dark, black hole surely on their way to an innings defeat. Their miserable run in First Class cricket continues. Derwin Christian, the wicketkeeper is the new batsman.
61ov [. . . . . .] 161/4: Deonarine 13*, R Crandon 2*. Maiden over from David Bernard to Crandon to start the final day.
The Guyanese resume on 161 for 4 with Deonarine on 13 and Royston Crandon on 2.
9:45am: Welcome to Foursquare Oval for the final day's play Jamaica v Guyana. Guyana are up against it and Jamaica will be confident of taking full points having already secured first innings points. Guyana's hopes rest with Narsingh Deonarine and the Crandon brothers - Esuan and Royston. Derwin Christian, the wicketkeeper is to come as well along with the bowlers. It is a tough ask for Guyana to bat out they day and save the game. The odds will be for Jamaica to take the remaining six wickets and seal the deal. David Bernard has three wickets but the greater danger may be posed by the spinners Odean Brown and Nikita Miller who took six wickets in the first innings. The conditions are cool and lovely and the pitch has stood up well even though it really is flat and made for batting. We start at 10am.
STUMPS, DAY 3: Guyana close on 161 for 4 and are 102 runs away from making Jamaica bat for a second time. Narsingh Deonarine is their key batsman and he is at the crease on 9. He will need to make a substantial score and bat time tomorrow as well to help Guyana to save the match but the chips are heavily stacked in favour of a Jamaican win. They need just another six wickets to take full points for the third game in a row. Guyana started the day on 112 for 5 but crashed and burned to 166, allowing a 263 run lead. Assad Fudadin topsscored with 39 then returned in the second innings after Jamaica enforced the follow-on to top score once again with 54. Travis Dowlin who made a first ball duck in the first innings made a restrained and responsible 41 and the young opener - Rajendra Chandrika - was impressive until he suffered a brain freeze and was run out for 36. In the first innings Nikita Miller collected 6 for 42 but David Bernard starred in the second innings for 3 for 25. Join us at 10am tomorrow morning for the final day's play when we expect Jamaica to lengthen their points lead by formalizing their victory and move to 36 points.
60ov [. 1 . . . 4] 161/4: Deonarine 9*, R Crandon 1*. Crandon off the mark with a single through midwicket. Enjoyable cover drive to finish the day's play by Deonarine. Guyana are fighting back but they have a very long way to go. They have Deonarine at the crease along with Royston Crandon and those two will need to play career defining innings tomorrow to even give Guyana a chance for a draw.
59ov [1 4nb . . . . .] 156/4: Deonarine 5*, R Crandon 0*.
58ov [. . . 4 . .] 150/4: Deonarine 5*, R Crandon 0*. On the pads and clipped away by Deonarine. Can't bowl there to him. Bread and butter with a slice or two of cheese. He's going to put those away with consummate ease. 150 up. Follows up with a wild swipe outside off stump. Misses.
57ov [. W . . . .] 146/4: Deonarine 1*, R Crandon 0*. Wicket maiden for Bernard who is swinging it both ways like a well oiled see-saw in the wind. Crandon having to drop the bat down with urgency to keep Bernard out. Guyana 127 away from making Jamaica bat again with six wickets left.
WICKET: A Fudadin b Bernard 54. 146/4. BOWLED! My word. That pitched about six inches outside off and it moved back venomously crashing through the gate between bat and pad and knocking over the middle and off stump. Reverse swing from Bernard and the Jamaican lads enjoyed that. It was a peach of a delivery which deserved a wicket and so it got. Royston Crandon is the new batsman.
56ov [. . . . . .] 146/3: Fudadin 54*, Deonarine 1*. Excellent judgment by Deonarine in leaving the ball alone outside off stump. Maiden.
55ov [nb . . W 4b nb 1 .] 146/3: Fudadin 54*, Deonarine 1*. Bernard makes the breakthrough. 84 run partnership comes to an end.
WICKET: T Dowlin lbw Bernard 41. 140/3. On the backfoot, struck on the pad but that seemed a bit high. But Dowlin has to go, Umpire Dalton Holder raises the finger and Guyana suffered a grossly unwanted setback. Dowlin misses out on a half century. New batsman is Narsingh Deonarine.
54ov [. . . 1 . .] 139/2: Dowlin 41*, Fudadin 54*. Fudadin wafted at one but was beaten for pace again and then left one alone which wasn't missing off stump by very much. It's late in the day and it was hot and he's had a tough task. He's done well so far but perhaps tiring a bit.
53ov [. . . . . .] 138/2: Dowlin 40*, Fudadin 54*. Maiden by Bernard bowling at the Vasbert Drakes End.
52ov [1 1 . . . 1] 138/2: Dowlin 40*, Fudadin 54*. Powell is refreshed and working up some pace. Beats Fudadin for pace twice. One touches the bat but falls short of slip. Fudadin not able to get his bat out of the way quick enough.
Lambert turns to pace. Daren Powell is back from the Arthur Bethell End after the drinks break.
51ov [. . . . . .] 135/2: Dowlin 39*, Fudadin 52*. Another maiden. And that's drinks.
50ov [. 1 . . . .] 135/2: Dowlin 39*, Fudadin 52*. Just five runs from the last four overs.
A long stoppage while Fudadin waits for a pair of fresh gloves but the 12th man is having a difficult time finding it. Fudadin is unhappy but shouldn't he have left it in prominent position.
49ov [. . . . . .] 134/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 52*. Maiden over. Miller continues to probe on the off stump. Not allowing Fudadin to leave alone outside off stump.
Miller continues to Fudadin.
48ov [. . . 2 1 .] 134/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 52*.
FIFTY for Fudadin. Single takes him to his half century but gets an overthrow. Excellent innings from Fudadin. He faced 96 balls to get to fifty and hit 4 fours and a six.
47ov [. . . . . 1] 131/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 49*. Fudadin one away from a half century, what would be his first this season.
46ov [. 2 . . . 1] 130/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 48*.
45ov [2 . 1 . . .] 127/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 45*.
44ov [2 . 1 1 . .] 124/2: Dowlin 38*, Fudadin 42*. Three runs to Dowlin and 1 to Fudadin. Both batsmen closing in on half centuries. A responsible partnership but they have not allowed themselves to be bogged down. Playing positively on what remains a rather flat track.
43ov [2 . . . 1 1] 120/2: Dowlin 35*, Fudadin 41*. Dowlin and Fudadin have added 64 and are building a substantial partnership. Both batting beautifully.
42ov [. . . . . .] 116/2: Dowlin 34*, Fudadin 38*. Maiden by Browne. Loud shout on the 4th delivery for lbw v Dowlin. That was close but Umpire Holder thinks long and hard before turning it down.
Miller bowling at the Vasbert Drakes End and now Odean Browne is at the Arthur Bethell End.
41ov [. . . . 1 2] 116/2: Dowlin 34*, Fudadin 38*.
40ov [. . . 4 . .] 113/2: Dowlin 33*, Fudadin 36*.
39ov [1 2 1 . . .] 109/2: Dowlin 33*, Fudadin 32*.
Brown to Dowlin.
38ov [. . . . . 1] 105/2: Dowlin 32*, Fudadin 29*. Back to normal proceedings. Single in the over.
37ov [. 1 2 4 1 ] 103/2: Dowlin 31*, Fudadin 28*. Fudadin cuts for two then goes long and straight for 4. A few bounces and it crashes into the sightscreen. 8 runs from the over to follow an over which produced 11. 100 up.
36ov [1 . 4 . . 6] 95/2: Dowlin 30*, Fudadin 21*. Driven! Just over deep mid off by Fudadin. Miller leaps but not able to reach it. DROPPED! Fudadin edges and it's dropped by Baugh. In and out. That had to have been taken. Bad miss by Baugh. Lambert is most unhappy. SIX! Over wide mid off. Into the scoreboard. An over of action and drama.
35ov [1 . . . . .] 84/2: Dowlin 29*, Fudadin 11*. Another over, another single. Score moves on by one as it has for the past two overs.
34ov [. . . . . 1] 83/2: Dowlin 28*, Fudadin 11*.
Lambert picks up the attack from the Arthur Bethell End. Off spin from this end, left arm spin from the other.
33ov [. . . . 1 .] 82/2: Dowlin 27*, Fudadin 11*.
Back after tea. Miller to operate from the Vasbert Drakes End.
TEA: At the second interval of the day Guyana are starting to fightback. They are 81 for 2 with Travis Dowlin on 26 and Assad Fudadin on 11. Chattergoon and Chandrika are the two men out. Guyana are following the trend as there are also fightbacks in the other games by the teams which are behind. Both Trinidad & Tobago and Combined Campuses and Colleges are staging fightbacks after losing first innings but Guyana are much farther behind Jamaica than T&T and CCC are behind Barbados and Windward Islands respectively. Guyana are still 182 runs away from making Jamaica bat again with 8 wickets in hand in their second innings. SCORES: Jamaica 429. Guyana 166 & 81 for 2.
32ov [. . . . . .] 81/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 11*. Maiden by Lambert takes us to tea.
31ov [. . 4 . . 1] 81/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 11*. Short and pulled away by Fudadin for 4. Two bounces over square leg and into the boundary. Fudadin into double figures.
30ov [. . . . . .] 76/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 6*. All the Jamaicans have their hands on their heads after the third ball which Dowlin defends on the back foot but he didn't handle the bounce from Lambert well and it bounces just next to his boot then goes over the stumps. Narrow miss.
29ov [. . . . . .] 76/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 6*. Maiden. Brown getting what has got to be disconcerting bounce for the batsmen. Fudadin not in entire control to a couple deliveries.
28ov [1 . . . . .] 76/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 6*.
Bowling change. Lambert comes in, taking over from Miller. He'll get a few overs in before tea. Parchment fielding at midwicket with the helmet on. He doesn't want to take it off as he is alternating between fielding under the bat and mid wicket for the two batsmen.
27ov [. . . . . .] 75/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 5*. Brown follows the Miller maiden to Fudadin with a maiden to Dowlin.
26ov [. . . . . .] 75/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 5*. Miller bowls a maiden to Fudadin. Dowlin at the other end is making up for a first ball duck in the first innings. He's on 26 but will need a lot more to help Guyana to get an unlikely draw at best.
25ov [nb . . . . . 4] 75/2: Dowlin 26*, Fudadin 5*. Swept away by Dowlin, beats the man at short fine leg as they tumbled and attempted to save.
24ov [. . . . . 1] 70/2: Dowlin 22*, Fudadin 5*. Single to Dowlin to end the over.
23ov [. . . . . .] 69/2: Dowlin 21*, Fudadin 5*. Maiden over by Odean Brown.
22ov [. . 1 . . .] 69/2: Dowlin 21*, Fudadin 5*.
21ov [. . 1 4 . .] 68/2: Dowlin 21*, Fudadin 4*. Pulled by Dowlin through square leg for four.
Brown to Fudadin.
20ov [. 1 . . . .] 63/2: Dowlin 17*, Fudadin 3*.
Miller to Fudadin.
19ov [4 . . . . .] 62/2: Dowlin 17*, Fudadin 2*. Dowlin down the track and goes high and straight. One, two bounces into the boundary. 4.
18ov [. . . . . .] 58/2: Dowlin 13*, Fudadin 2*. Maiden for Miller. Fudadin in control though.
17ov [. . . . . .] 58/2: Dowlin 13*, Fudadin 2*. Maiden by Brown from the top end.
16ov [4 . . . W 2] 58/2: Dowlin 13*, Fudadin 2*. What are you doing young man? Batting well and there was a rush of blood to his head and he goes high but safely over Wavell Hinds at mid on. Why did he play such a high risk shot when there was no need to? Inexplicable!
WICKET: R Chandrika Run Out (Bernard/Baugh) 36. 56/2. Chandrika drives hard just past the bowler and the ball rushes down to David Bernard at deep mid off. Chandrika sets off and reaches the non-striker's end. Dowlin does not respond. Chandrika turns back but Bernard's throw to Baugh finds him meters short. He was looking for a way to get out and he suceeded.
15ov [. 1 . 3 . .] 52/1: Chandrika 32*, Dowlin 13*.
14ov [. nb . . . . 2] 48/1: Chandrika 29*, Dowlin 12*. Edges past slip and runs away to the vacant third man for 2.
13ov [. . . . . .] 45/1: Chandrika 27*, Dowlin 12*. The leg spinner starts with a maiden.
Odean Brown displaces Daren Powell at the Vasbert Drakes End. The spin twins to operate in tandem.
12ov [. . . . . 2] 45/1: Chandrika 27*, Dowlin 12*. The drinks come on.
Bowling change. The first innings destroyer comes in. Miller replaces Bernard at the Arthur Bethell End. Can Miller add a few more to his 6 in the first innings? Don't bet against it.
11ov [1 . . 1 . .] 43/1: Chandrika 25*, Dowlin 12*.
10ov [. . 4 . 1nb 4 nb .] 41/1: Chandrika 24*, Dowlin 11*. Straying wide of off stump is Bernard and he is pounded behind point by Dowlin, the Windies middle order batsman. Hyatt at point chases for a few paces then breaks into a light jog to retrieve. Chandrika goes forward and gets an edge, drops short of Parchment at second slip and goes past him for 4. Chandrika is lucky. Had Bernard put a little more pace on that it could have carried to slip.
9ov [. 4 1 . 1 .] 30/1: Chandrika 20*, Dowlin 6*. SHOT HIM BOY! Cracking square drive by Chandrika. That gets the modest Sunday crowd going. The Guyana dressing room has come alive as well. Very vociferous after that shot. The young man punishes Powell then comfortably rides a - surprise surprise - a short delivery at the body into the on side for a single. Mature stuff from the young man. This kid, we say again, is one for the future. Make a note of his name.
8ov [. 1 . . . .] 24/1: Chandrika 15*, Dowlin 5*. Single to Chandrika in the over. Bernard remains fairly frugal.
7ov [. . . . . 4] 23/1: Chandrika 14*, Dowlin 5*. The finest of clips of the hip and it shuttles through to the fine leg boundary just wide of the sightscreen for 4. Over ends on a good note for Guyana but Powell is a tad inconsistent in both line and length but mostly in line.
6ov [. . . 1 . .] 19/1: Chandrika 14*, Dowlin 1*. Single to get Dowlin off the mark.
5ov [4 . . . 4 .] 18/1: Chandrika 14*, Dowlin 0*. What a straight drive! All timing. Just out of Powell's reach in his follow through and Wavell Hinds at mid off races behind it thinking that he can cut it off but he doesn't realise how well that is timed. It romps away for 4. Now cut away, just past the diving Miller at gully. This boy has some talent. That was a splendid cut shot. He was in total control against West Indies fast bowler. Chandrika continues to show his pedigree.
Powell continues from the Vasbert Drakes End. Chandrika to face.
4ov [nb . . . . . .] 10/1: Chandrika 6*, Dowlin 0*. Over spoiled by a no ball to start. Bernard on target. He's the unsung workhorse of the Jamaicann attack.
3ov [. 2 4 . . .] 9/1: Chandrika 6*, Dowlin 0*. Flicked off the pads by Chandrika and fine fielding by Bernard hitting the stumps but Chandrika is back safely. But only just. Then he pulls a short delivery, this one beats Bernard into the rope. 4.
2ov [. 2 . . . W] 3/1: Chandrika 0*, Dowlin 0*. Successful first over from Bernard. Guyana facing an immediate dilemma. They've lost 11 wickets for 169 runs in this match.
WICKET: S Chattergoon c Pagon b Bernard 3. 3/1. Wicket right after lunch. In the first over after the break. The captain goes. He clipped it off the pads and picked out Pagon at mid wicket who took a low catch falling forward. Well judged. Guyana continue to struggle and Travis Dowlin who made a first ball duck yesterday walks to the crease.
Bernard to take up the attack from the Arthur Bethell End after lunch. Chattergoon to face.
LUNCH: Guyana bowled out for 166 in the morning session, losing five wickets and are 1 without loss. Jamaica, the points leaders are in complete control of this match and well on their way to securing full points from this game as well.
1ov [. 1 . . . .] 1/0: Chattergoon 1*, Chandrika 0*. Daren Powell bowls the lone over before lunch. Bowling short, a single to Chattergoon and Chandrika plays with a straight bat back up the pitch for the last four deliveries. Time for the meal.
Guyana lacked any discernible plan when they fielded and it was no different when they were batting. They were out-thought and out-played by Jamaica. Brandon Bess troubled the Jamaican top order with some bounce from the Arthur Bethell End and Veerasammy Permaul bowled with purposed. Rajendra Chandrika looked intent on playing a long hand and Deonarine is clearly in excellent touch until a miraculous catch cut him down. Fudadin played doggedly until an error in judgment caused his demise. Miller was outstanding as he has been all tournament long and as he virtually always is in First Class cricket. Responsible ton by Wavell Hinds who is in the form of his life and Carlton Baugh who took the opportunity to remind the WI selectors that he's around.
77ov [. . 1 . . W] 166 all out: Bess 2*. Guyana batted for 77 overs and will have to face one over before lunch as the Jamaicans, predictably, have enforced the follow on. Guyana are staring at a huge deficit of 263. They were drained after spending a day and a half in the field chasing after balls hit by Wavell Hinds and Carlton Baugh who both made centuries and they were unable to recuperate early enough to bat as long as they needed to to overhaul Jamaica's 429. They fall terribly short to be all out for a paltry 166. That's not just paltry in this match, it is paltry under any circumstances.
WICKET: D Christian b Miller 16. 166. Christian ill-advisedly tries to cut a flat and fast delivery aimed at the stumps. Why he would want to cut that only heaven knows. Misses as he was always going to and his stumps are re-arranged. Miller pumps his fist and the the fielders gather around to congratulate him on his 6-fer. Miller 6 for 42. A fantastic performance by the left arm spinner who bowled with control and guile. Jamaica will miss him after this game when he joins the West Indies in Australia.
76ov [1 . W . . 1] 164/8: Christian 16*, Bess 1*. Lambert gets a second wicket to add to Miller's 5 and one each to Bernard and Brown.
WICKET: V Permaul lbw Lambert 0. 164/9. Playing back and that delivery rushes onto him and takes him on the pad as he struggled to get the bat down quick enough. Guyana could be all out before lunch and they will battle to stay afloat in this game whatever happens from here onwards. Brandon Bess is the last man.
75ov [. . 2lb . . .] 163/8: Christian 16*, Permaul 0*. Just two leg byes off the Miller over.
74ov [. . . . . .] 161/8: Christian 16*, Permaul 0*. Maiden by Captain Lambert who, since youth cricket days, self-deprecatingly describes his own bowling as "right arm hopeful".
73ov [1 . . . W .] 161/8: Christian 16*, Permaul 0*. Miller rushes into the lead wicket taker's position in the tournament with a five-fer. He's bowled all morning and has gotten two wickets to add to his three from yesterday.
WICKET: E Crandon c Hyatt b Miller 6. 161/8. Crandon pushes forward tamely and Hyatt hauls in a sharp catch at silly point. Five wickets for Nikita Miller. He is the second left arm spinner to take a five-fer in the match. The other man who did it - Veerasammy Permaul - walks to the crease. Guyana capitulating to an under 200 score.
72ov [. . . . . .] 160/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 6*. Maiden by Lambert.
71ov [. . . 1 . .] 160/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 6*.
Miller continues at the Vasbert Drakes End.
70ov [. . . . . 1] 159/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 5*. Single through the off side to Crandon.
Ah! Right on cue. Lambert takes the ball himself and Brown gets a break.
69ov [. . . . . .] 158/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 4*. Christian and Crandon seem intent on just blocking out and batting time but there is much too much time remaining in this match. Lambert will be thinking about a bowling change.
68ov [. . . . . .] 158/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 4*. Brown follows Miller with a maiden of his own.
Brown switches to around the wicket to Esuan Crandon.
67ov [. . . . . .] 158/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 4*. Maiden from Miller.
66ov [. . 1 . 4 .] 158/7: Christian 15*, E Crandon 4*. Crandon off the mark with a crunching extra cover drive. Shot boy!
65ov [1 . . . . .] 153/7: Christian 14*, E Crandon 0*. A single at the top of the over to Christian.
64ov [4 4 1 W . .] 152/7: Christian 13*, E Crandon 0*. Christian trading in boundaries but aided by poor deliveries first up by Brown. Punched away forward of point for 4s by Christian at the start of the over. Three fours in that 13 by Christian. 150 up. Brown benefits from flight, he tosses it up and Fudadin is late in shot, in no control and goes. Guyana now in a hapless position. Unless there is a late order rally they will fall short of the follow on total of 280 and surely Jamaica will ask them to bat again.
WICKET: A Fudadin c Nash b Brown 39. 152/7. The last frontline batsman goes. Fudadin does not get to the pitch of the flighted delivery and drive loosely to cover where Nash takes an easy catch. Esuan Crandon comes to the crease to join Christian.
63ov [. . . . . .] 143/6: Fudadin 39*, Christian 4*. Another in a string of maidens by Miller the West Indies left arm spinner who is playing in his last game before going off to Australia for the ODI Series and 2 T20s.
62ov [. . 1 . 4 .] 143/6: Fudadin 39*, Christian 4*. Short delivery pulled between midwicket and mid on for 4 to get off the mark in fine style. Power by Christian who is putting that Sunday morning breakfast to work. He's a strongly built lad so once he gets enough bat on it the fielders will have to watch it blow by.
61ov [. . . . . .] 138/6: Fudadin 38*, Christian 0*. Maiden over by Miller. He continues to target those stumps and forces Christian to play. No easy runs being afforded.
60ov [. . . . . .] 138/6: Fudadin 38*, Christian 0*. Maiden over by Odean Brown. Both Brown and Miller looking as though a wicket is nigh. Certainly different to how the Guyanese bowlers - save for Permaul - were approaching things. They are bowling aggressively, flighting the ball and targeting the stumps. Guyanese bowlers were defensive. Kudos must go to Miller and Brown and Bernard who bowled intelligently yesterday afternoon and bought the wicket of Chattergoon who he outsmarted.
59ov [1 . . . . .] 138/6: Fudadin 38*, Christian 0*. Single to Fudadin at the start of the over and Christian plays defensively for the rest of it.
58ov [. . . 1 . .] 137/6: Fudadin 37*, Christian 0*. Vociferous lbw shout on the 5th delivery. That looked close, Christian was struck full while hanging on the back foot. Umpire Holder thinks not out.
57ov [. . 6 . . W] 136/5: Fudadin 36*, Christian 0*. Mighty blow! Straight shot and it goes over the bowler's head, over the sightscreen, over the road, into the canefield! That's the biggest hit of the match. That's a Chris Gayle sort of blow. And he hit that into the wind too. It sailed and sailed and sailed unto it landed in the canefield. And now revenge for Miller. He gets the wicket when Crandon was being timid in his shot selection. Guyana in deep, deep trouble.
WICKET: R Crandon lbw Miller 17. 136/6. Tame paddle sweep attempted and he misses the shot, is struck in front and Umpire Grazette raises the finger. That was a poor choice of shot by Crandon when he was just about getting on top of the bowling. New batsman is Derwin Christian
56ov [. 4 . . . 1] 130/5: Fudadin 36*, R Crandon 11*. Straight lofted drive by Crandon. he goes directly over the bowler's head. A few bounces into the sightscreen. Super shot. First boundary of the morning.
Brown continues to Royston Crandon.
55ov [. 1 . . . .] 125/5: Fudadin 36*, R Crandon 6*. Just a single to Crandon.
54ov [. 1 . . . .] 124/5: Fudadin 36*, R Crandon 5*. Loud appeal for a catch at bat pad v Fudadin but he got no bat on that. Brown and the fielders went up confidently but his bat nor gloves were nowhere near that.
53ov [1 . . 1 1 .] 123/5: Fudadin 36*, R Crandon 4*. Beginning to turn over the strike now.
52ov [. . . . 2 .] 120/5: Fudadin 35*, R Crandon 2*. Turned fine to the vacant fine leg position for 2 by Fudadin. Brown straying in line.
51ov [. . . . . .] 118/5: Fudadin 33*, R Crandon 2*. Sixth over where no runs are scored off the bat. Guyanese batsmen being watchful and circumstpect.
50ov [. 2lb . . . .] 118/5: Fudadin 33*, R Crandon 2*. Just two leg byes. No run to the bowler.
49ov [. . . . . .] 118/5: Fudadin 33*, R Crandon 2*. Fifth maiden for the morning.
48ov [. 1 . 1 . .] 116/5: Fudadin 33*, R Crandon 2*
47ov [. . 1 1 . .] 114/5: Fudadin 32*, R Crandon 1*. First runs off the bat and Royston Crandon is off the mark as well.
46ov [. . . . . .] 112:5/ Fudadin 31*, R Crandon 0*. Three maidens in a row.
45ov [. . . . . .] 112:5/ Fudadin 31*, R Crandon 0*. Consecutive maidens by Miller.
44ov [. . . . . .] 112:5/ Fudadin 31*, R Crandon 0*. Brown starts the morning with a maiden.
Leg spinner Odean Brown to operate from the Arthur Bethell End.
43ov [. . W . . .] 112/5: Fudadin 31*, R Crandon 0*. So that turns out to be a wicket maiden. Good start to the morning.
Welcome back to Foursquare Oval where Guyana will resume on 112 for 5 with Assad Fudadin on 31 and Royston Crandon not yet off the mark. Nikita Miller will start by finishing up the over from yesterday afternoon which was halted when he bowled Devedra Bishoo, the nightwatchman.
STUMPS, DAY 2: Points leader Jamaica take complete command of their third round game against Guyana. They spent most of the day compiling 429 then waded into the Guyanese batting to leave them 112 for 5 at close of play with Assad Fudadin not out on 31 and the main men Narsingh Deonarine (24) and Travis Dowlin (0) back in the shed. The Guyanese will have to be engaged in a consolidation and rescue effort on day three. Join us at 10am tomorrow morning for commentary and live score updates from day three. Have a lovely Saturday evening however you enjoy spending it. And before you go to bed say a little prayer for our brothers and sister in Haiti and give whatever you can however you can to help them live a little more comfortably after such a horrendous disaster.
43ov [. . W] 112/5: Fudadin 31*. A wicket to end the day's play by Miller. Guyana in serious trouble, trailing Jamaica by 317 with only five wickets remaining and only Fudadin being a frontline batsman among them.
WICKET: D Bishoo b Miller 0. 112/5. Beaten and bowled by Miller. 3rd wicket for Miller. He has 3 for 25. Jamaica are on top and Guyana have floundered badly and are in danger of not making the follow on total of 230.
42ov [. 2 . . . .] 112/4: Fudadin 31*, Bishoo 0*. Fudadin cuts and gets 2 and spends the over playing for the close.
41ov [. . . . . .] 110/4: Fudadin 29*, Bishoo 0*. Maiden from the left arm West Indies spinner Miller. Two more overs remaining before close of play.
41ov [. . . . . .] 110/4: Fudadin 29*, Bishoo 0*. Maiden from the left arm West Indies spinner Miller. Two more overs remaining before close of play.
Lambert has done his job so he's off. Miller is back at the Vasbert Drakes End.
40ov [. . . 4 . .] 110/4: Fudadin 29*, Bishoo 0*. That'll be a contender for shot of the match. A delectable cover drive by Fudadin. Just a few feet to Nikita Miller's right but he simply had to watch it go by to the boundary for 4.
39ov [. 1 W . . .] 106/4: Fudadin 25*, Bishoo 0*. Lambert lands the big fish in Deonarine but that was really Bernard's wicket. What a stupendous catch it was!
WICKET: N Deonarine c Bernard b Lamber 24. 106/4. CATCH OF THE MATCH! CATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT! PEHNOMENAL! Deonarine pulled that and Bernard lept and flung himself and somehow that stuck. One handed flying catch. That is one of the finest catches you'll ever see in your lifetime. These spectators will talk about that for years!. Nightwatchman is Devendra Bishoo.
38ov [. . . . . .] 105/3: Fudadin 24*, Deonarine 24*. Miaden by Brown.
37ov [4 . . . . .] 105/3: Fudadin 24*, Deonarine 24*. Poor first ball from Lambert. Slow, short. It simply lobbed up and begged to be smacked. Fudadin obliges. Over mid wicket for 4. Tidy five balls to follow forcing Fudadin to play defensively.
Lambert takes of Miller and he takes the ball himself.
36ov [. 1 1 4 . .] 101/3: Fudadin 20*, Deonarine 24*. Short from Miller and pulled away by Deonarine. Not a man move. Pagon sets off on a jog from mid wicket to retrieve. 100 up with that shot.
35ov [. 1 . . . .] 95/3: Fudadin 19*, Deonarine 19*. Just a single to Deonarine who equals Fudadin's 19.
34ov [. . . . 2 1] 94/3: Fudadin 19*, Deonarine 18*. DROPPED! Pulled by Deonarine and Pagon lept at midwicket and parried it behind him but could not retrive it before it fell to the ground. Good effort but having parried it should have taken it on the second attempt.
33ov [1 . 4 . 1 .] 91/3: Fudadin 19*, Deonarine 15*. Pulled away by Deonarine. Short delivery given the treatment as it should get from a Test batsman.
32ov [. 1 . 1 . 1] 85/3: Fudadin 18*, Deonarine 10*.
31ov [. 1 . 1 . . ] 82/3: Fudadin 16*, Deonarine 9*. (Note adjustment of the batsmen's individual scores)
30ov [1 . . 1 1 .] 80/3: Fudadin 13*, Deonarine 12*. Mixed bag from Brown for his first over. Too short too frequently and too much width to the left handers but he is not averse to flighting it.
Odean Brown, the leggie, into the attack from the Arthur Bethell end.
29ov [. . 2 2 . .] 77/3: Fudadin 12*, Deonarine 10*. A pair of doubles for Deonarine takes him into double figures.
Miller to Deonarine.
28ov [. 1 . . 2 .] 73/3: Fudadin 10*, Deonarine 6*.
27ov [. 1 . . . .] 70/3: Fudadin 9*, Deonarine 4*. Just a single turned behind square by Fudadin.
26ov [3 . 4 . . nb .] 69/3: Fudadin 8*, Deonarine 4*. First ball was short and pulled away for 3 then Deonarine gets off the mark with an immaculately timed on drive. Top shot from Guyana's top batsman.
Bowling change. Bernard goes off to take a breather. Brenton Parchment comes in to bowl medium pace.
25ov [. . . . . .] 61/3: Fudadin 5*, Deonarine 0*. Maiden by Miller.
19 overs remaining in the day's play. Today has been thoroughly dominated by the defending champions Jamaica who were all over last year's cellar dweller - Guyana.
24ov [. . 4 . . .] 61/3: Fudadin 5*, Deonarine 0*. Sweetly driven by Fudadin. Bisecting extra cover and mid off. Runs all along the field to the boundary rope. Wavell hinds from mid off gives chase but he had no hope.
23ov [W . . 1 W .] 57/3: Fudadin 1*, Deonarine 0*. Two wickets in the over for Miller who has set the Guyanese back in a hole. They need a major partnership similar to that of Hinds/Baugh from Deonarine and Fudadin.
A Windies batsman replaces another Windies batsman. Narsingh Deonarine in for Dowlin.
WICKET: T Dowlin c Hyatt b Miller 0. 57/3. First ball! Goes hard at it on the front foot playing defensively and it pops up and the man at silly mid off takes a screamer! Hyatt plucks that one-handedly. The catch of the match to date. Guyana in major trouble. Two wickets in the over for Miller.
WICKET: R Chandrika lbw Miller 30. 56/2. Goes for a sweep and is struck plumb in front. Umpire Grazette raises the finger and Jamaica have made a double blow. Assad Fudadin walks out. Two new batsmen at the crease.
22ov [. . . . 2 W] 56/1: Chandrika 30*, Dowlin 0*. Breakthrough over for Jamaica.
Travis Dowlin, the Windies middle order batsman is the new batsman.
WICKET: S Chattergoon lbw Bernard 22. 56/1. Chattergoon playing across the line and missing. Struck low on the pad and sent on the way. That looked straighforward. Bernard reaps success for bowling wicket to wicket. First wicket for Jamaica.
Chandrika seems most unperturbed at the crease. He's in his own zone, taking his own time, going at his own pace. He's applying himself. Good signs for Guyana. Chattergoon is the one who is lapsing in concentration from time to time but has not paid the ultimate price for yet.
21ov [. 1 . . . .] 54/0: Chattergoon 20*, Chandrika 30*. Loud appeal off the final delivery for lbw but Chandrika was long forward. Between deliveries he's fidgeting as much as Chanderpaul. Fixing this, nudging that. He made a fifty on debut v T&T in the previous round then stroked another 50 in the Haiti Charity Match in Trinidad. He's in very good touch and clearly a fine player. One to watch for sure.
20ov [. . . . . .] 53/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 30*. Maiden by Bernard. He's trundling in and leaving it on off stump. Nothing fancy, just putting it on the spot.
19ov [. . 4 . . 1] 53/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 30*. Driven to the left of cover, goes racing down the slope. 4. 50 up. This is the kind of pitch which gives bowlers nightmares all night long. There is nothing but runs in it. The Jamaicans are likely to pay for dropping Chattergoon. It was a dolly and Parchment was the culprit.
18ov [nb . . . . 1 .] 48/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 25*. Repeat of the last Bernard v Chandrika over. Middle and off stump, middle of Chandrika's bat. This time Chandrika gets a single from the penultimate delivery.
17ov [. . . . . .] 46/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 24*. An over of appeals. Chattergoon left alone twice and was struck on the pad but Umpire Grazette thinks not out on both occasions.
16ov [. . . . . .]46/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 24*. Maiden by Bernard. He is bowling wicket to wicket but reaching the full face of Chandrika's bat every time.
15ov [. . 2 2 . .] 46/0: Chattergoon 19*, Chandrika 24*. Swept fine for 2 and cut past point for another 2 by Chattergoon.
14ov [. . . . . 4] 42/0: Chattergoon 15*, Chandrika 24*. Flowing square drive by Chandrika to end the over. Supreme shot.
13ov [. . . . . .] 38/0: Chattergoon 15*, Chandrika 20*. Another maiden by Miller. He's probing on an off stump line and forcing Chattergoon to play defensively.
12ov [1 . . 1 2 .] 38/0: Chattergoon 15*, Chandrika 20*. Chattergoon shouldered arms to the third delivery and it clipped the too of the front pad. Loud shout. Turned down by Umpire Holder.
Bernard to Chandrika.
11ov [. . . . . .] 34/0: Chattergoon 15*, Chandrika 17*. Maiden by Miller.
Miller and Bernard operating after tea. Miller, at the Vasbert Drakes End, to bowl to Chattergoon.
10ov [. . . 1 4 .] 34/0: Chattergoon 15*, Chandrika 17*.
TEA: Guyana are 29 without loss with captain Sewnarine Chattergoon on 14 and Rajendra Chandrika on 14*.
9ov [. . . . . .] 29/0: Chattergoon 14*, Chandrika 13*. Maiden to take us to tea. Jamaica will be kicking themselves for not getting Chattergoon. Parchment can sit in a corner in the dressing room all be himself, he won't have many friends during the break.
Nikita Miller to get an over in before tea. Powell is off.
8ov [1 . . . 4 .] 29/0: Chattergoon 14*, Chandrika 13*. DROPPED! Too easy. Chattergoon got a thick edge to a delivery which left him and it went straight down Parchment's throat at second slip and he refuses to swallow. What an ugly miss. It was perhaps too easy! Bernard is very unhappy, as indeed he should be. Next ball Chattergoon cover drives gloriously for 4. Chandrika is picking off singles with consummate ease all while playing with the straightest of bats. Very disciplined batting from him to start off. He would want to cash in on this flat batting pitch, as every batsman should want to.
Bernard to Chandrika.
7ov [. 1 . . 4 .] 24/0: Chattergoon 10*, Chandrika 12*. Short and delicious and Chattergoon was not going to miss out. Not on this batting paradise of a pitch. Hooks and the ball goes one bounce into the boundary, almost got the maximum, not enough power.
Fair sized Saturday afternoon crowd in. And they're chattering away as well. A good few Guyanese in among them.
6ov [. . . . 1 .] 19/0: Chattergoon 6*, Chanrdika 11*. Single to Chandrika into the off side. He's playing very stylishly Chandrika is but not quite finding the gaps just yet.
5ov [. . . . . .] 18/0: Chattergoon 6*, Chandrika 10*. Maiden from Powell and the 4th ball kicked at Chattergoon. That had some pace and bounce as well. Sharp delivery.
4ov [nb . . 1 2 . .] 18/0: Chattergoon 6*, Chandrika 10*.
3ov [. . 3 . 4 2] 14/0: Chattergoon 5*, Chandrika 8*. Chattergoon pulls a shorter delivery but it gets onto the bat a little quicker than he anticipated. Gets it wide of mid on and it runs to the boundary but the fielder catches up to it and pulls it back. 3 runs. Chandrika cuts that late, very late. Exceptional shot for 4.
2ov [. . nb 1 . . .] 5/0: Chattergoon 2*, Chandrika 2*. Just a single and no ball from the over.
David Bernard Jr shares the new ball with Powell.
1ov [. . . . 1 2] 3/0: Chattergoon 1*, Chandrika 1*. Both batsmen off the mark with pushes into the off side.
It will be Daren Powell to start at the Vasbert Drakes End bowling to Sewnarine Chattergoon who has the rookie - Rajendra Chandrika - as his partner. 430 is the target to get first innings points. A mountain to climb.
138ov [W] 429. Browne 2*. A stunning 233 run partnership for the 7th wicket gave the Jamaicans a 400+ total when they had looked as though they would struggle to get to 250. A top effort from left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who maintained varying levels of aggression against the Jamaicans even as the rest of the team and the other bowlers seemed content to just await a declaration.
WICKET: N Miller c Chattergoon b Permaul 1. 429 all out. Miller cuts and gets an edge to Chattergoon at first slip. Permaul gets a 5-fer. 5 for 63. Fine bowling, he was the best Guyanese bowler overall by some distance. The Guyanese will chase 430 to take first innings points but it is a tall order as they are missing their two premier batsmen - Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan.
137ov [. 1 . . . 2] 429/9: Miller 1*, Brown 2*. Miller goes high and hard to the square leg boundary but Esuan Crandon takes an extremely long time getting around and get no where close to the ball.
136ov [. W . . . .] 426/9: Miller 0*, Brown 0*. Wicket maiden for Permaul. Just one wicket for the Guyanese to wrap up the innings and get some much deserved time out of the sun. From 422 for 6, Jamaica have dropped off to 426 for 9.
WICKET: D Powell b Permaul 4. 426/9. Powell goes for a heave-ho and misses. His middle stump is rocked. Permaul gets his 4th wicket.
135ov [. . . . . .] 426/8: Miller 0*, Powell 4*. Maiden by Royston Crandon.
134ov [. W . . . 4] 426/8: Miller 0*, Powell 4*. Powell goes off the mark with a strong hit over wide mid on for 4. Double blow for Guyana removing both the century-makers in the space of two overs.
WICKET: W Hinds c Chattergoon b Permaul 151. 422/8. Similar dismissal to Baugh. Goes for the sweep, to edges and Chattergoon at slip takes an easy catch. Hinds goes after a marathon innings. He still looks disappointed as he walks off, limply waving the bat. Daren Powell is the new batsman.
133ov [. 1 3 1 . W] 422/7: Hinds 151*, Miller 0*. 150 for Hinds with a single into the off side. Finally the breakthrough for Guyana.
WICKET: C Baugh c wkt Christian b R Crnadon 124. 422/7. Baugh goes for a sweep and gets a top edge, Christian darts around and takes the catch. Finally the marathon partnership ends. It was worth 223. Christian comes back to take the gloves from Chandrika. Permaul is off and is replaced by Royston Crandon at the Vasbert Drakes End. Nikita Miller is the new batsman.
132ov [. 4 6 . w 2 2] 415/6: Hinds 148*, Baugh 120*. Baugh goes over deep midwicket and gets it one bounce for 4, he wasn't satisfied with that so betters the effort. Same shot, a little squarer and over the ropes. 6!
131ov [. 6 6 . 1 1] 402/6: Hinds 148*, Baugh 106*. BOOM! Over square leg for 6 and then over deep mid wicket for another 6. Hinds is destroying Permaul here. Dropped by Deonarine at mid wicket who timed his jump poorly. Got his hand to it but it burst through. Baugh survives. 400 up.
130ov [1 . . . . 1] 391/6: Hinds 136*, Baugh 105*. Sharp single to end the over. Ooo! Close but Hinds barely makes it in. Direct hit not quick enough at the non-striker's end.
129ov [1 . 1 . 6 .] 389/6: Hinds 135*, Baugh 105*. Down on his knee and swept powerfully by Hinds. Very powerful shot, over the rope, onto the street, the ball goes scuttling away.
128ov [. . 4 1 . 4] 381/6: Hinds 128*, Baugh 104*. Pulled away thumpingly for 4 by Hinds. DROPPED! Baugh goes forward to a low delivery and gets the edge but stand-in keeper Chandrika could not hang on to a low catch. And to add insult to injury the next delivery goes past slip for 4.
127ov [. . . 4 1 .] 368/6: Hinds 123*, Baugh 100*. Swept away for 4 by Hinds. He's having his way with the Guyanese bowlers. Whispers around are that the Jamaicans are interested in 500 and batting once.
126ov [. . . . 2 1] 363/6: Hinds 118*, Baugh 100*. Three runs to Hinds in the first over after lunch. Guyanese labouring on this flat pitch but Wayne Daniel on commentary is observing that the spinners are not being aggressive, bowling defensively mostly. Deonarine and Bishoo have been extremely so, Permaul not as much. He's giving it a go. The only man who really looks like he can make something happen. He will bowl from the top end.
Back after lunch. Esuan Crandon to bowl to Hinds. Derwin Christian has a stomach bug and has not taken the field. Rajendra Chandrika takes the gloves.
LUNCH: Jamaica completely dominated that session. Scoring 121 runs in the session without losing a wicket. Both Hinds and Baugh getting to their first hundreds this season. The Guyanese were completely outplayed and out-thought. Guyanese played a waiting game not looking to get a wicket but simply going through the motions and waiting for the Jamaicans to make a mistake. Hinds did offer one chance on 85 but Fudadin put it down. Very ordinary cricket by the Guyanese and the Jamaican batsmen simply pressed forward and cashed in. We return in 40 minutes.
125ov [1 2 . . 2 .] 360/6: Hinds 115*, Baugh 100*. HUNDRED! Baugh cuts to forward of point and gets two to move from 98 to 100. That was not the smartest move from Guyana in the over before lunch though. Rather than keep Permaul, the leading spinner, on and try to keep Baugh in the nervous 90s at lunch the captain removed Permaul and gifted Baugh his ton before lunch. Baugh saw the opportunity and seized it, he can rest easy. Lunch.
Permaul is taken off and Chattergoon brings himself into the attack to bowl leg spin. Strange change with Baugh approaching a hundred and Permaul bowling well. Would have thought Permaul would have been kept on to keep the pressure on.
124ov [. . 1 1 1 4] 355/6: Hinds 114*, Baugh 96*. Baugh gets off 91 with a single to deep cover and the Jamaican 350 comes up as well. Baugh moves to 96 with a cut behind point. Runs away for 4.
Esuan Crandon to Hinds.
123ov [. . 1 . . .] 348/6: Hinds 112*, Baugh 91*. Perrmaul bringing some life to the Guyanese with an lbw shout but they seem in no mood to appeal. Sounds like they too are more keen on lunch. Not out is the verdict from Umpire Grazette.
Permaul continues to Hinds.
122ov [. . . . . 1] 347/6: Hinds 111*, Baugh 91*. That 12 minutes remaining til lunch is being questioned here in the media tent. There are now 4 different time pieces before us. One says 11:51, another 11:55, another 11:46 and yet another 11:53. Need to say there are some hungry folks around. They can't wait. Can Baugh?
Bishoo is off at the Arthur Bethell End. Bishoo is off and Esuan Crandon - the right arm medium fast bowler - is back. Can he get Guyana their first wicket in this session? He's wicketless in the match thus far. 4 wickets to Bess and 2 to Permaul. No one else has taken a wicket.
121ov [1 . . . . .] 346/6: Hinds 110*, Baugh 91*. Will Baugh get to his 100 before lunch? 12 minutes remain before the interval. He's just two scoring shots away.
150 partnership up. 255 balls, 15x4, 5x6. Guyanese shoulders are dropped. They are looking extremely flat and at a loss as to how they will eek a wicket out. They seem to be just allowing the Jamaicans their way and awaiting a declaration.
120ov [. 6 . 1 . .] 345/6: Hinds 109*, Baugh 91*. Big shot! Straight! Loud clunk. Onto the sightscreen here at the Arthur Bethell End. 6 to Hinds. That almost crashed into a few laptops here in the media tent. Inches saved us! It's now Baugh's turn to get to a ton and you can be sure he wont spend as long as Hinds did in getting there. He's going to get it or get out. It's how he plays.
119ov [1 . . . 4 .] 338/6: Hinds 102*, Baugh 91*. Baugh into the 90s with an edge off a cut shot which peals away to the third man boundary for 4.
118ov [2 . . . . 1] 333/6: Hinds 101*, Baugh 87*.
117ov [. 1 1 . . 1] 330/6: Hinds 101*, Baugh 84*. Baugh has geared down a bit since getting to 80. His mind must be on getting to a ton like Hinds so he's playing it safe.
116ov [. . . . . .] 327/6: Hinds 100*, Baugh 82*. Permaul starts with a maiden, following nicely in the footsteps of Deonarine who bowled four on the trot.
Hinds' hundred took 256 balls, 305 minutes and included 10 fours and two sixes. Deonarine is off the field so Veerasammy Permaul comes into the attack at the Vasbert Drakes end.
115ov [. 1 . . . .] 327/6: Hinds 100*, Baugh 82*. Wavell Hinds is the first man to score a first class century at Foursquare. Congratulations! A top knock.
CENTURY: Hinds drives between cover and extra cover and ambles through for the single. He's delighted. Waves his bat at the dressing room and the fans under the tents. The helmet is off too and he raises it and the bat aloft. It has been a real mature innings from the veteran. He took the responsibility of getting his team a substantial total and has led them brilliantly so far.
114ov [. 1 4 2 . .] 326/6: Hinds 99*, Baugh 82*. Baugh sweeps fine for 4. Controlled shot, well placed. Hinds to face and he needs just a single now. He's spent a long, very long time in the 90s. He's been ultra-cautious. Determined to get a century.
113ov [2 1 . . . 1] 319/6: Hinds 98*, Baugh 76*. Two away from a hundred now is Hinds.
Bishoo to continue to Baugh.
112ov [. . . . . .] 315/6: Hinds 97*, Baugh 73*. Four maidens on the trot by Deonarine. Hinds faced that over and remains three away from his first ton this season.
111ov [. . . . . 1] 315/6: Hinds 97*, Baugh 73*. Just a single to Hinds. Moves to 97, 3 away. Missed a chance to get the hundred in that over with a long hop outside leg. Should have sent that to the boundary.
110ov [. . . . . .] 314/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 73*. Deonarine bowls a third consecutive maiden but this time it is to Baugh.
109ov [. 2 . . 1 .] 314/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 73*. Swept for 2 and a single to Baugh who moves to 73.
108ov [. . . . . .] 311/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 70*. Miaden by Deonarine once again which keeps Hinds at bay. That's 12 straight dot balls from Deonarine to Hinds.
Drinks taken. Baugh has scored 41 runs in the first hour while Hinds added another 25. 66 runs this morning, so that's more than a run-a-minute pace. Baugh in particular has ensured that the Jamaicans have gotten a move on and are pressing ahead in 4th gear. That strong breeze has died off and the steamy conditions are setting in. It's not a good time to be in the field with two batsmen well set. Guyana are desperate for a wicket but it looks as though they have no strategy to get one. They are playing a waiting game, waiting for the Jamaicans to err. And when Hinds did err and offer a catch, Fudadin made a complete mess of it.
107ov [6 2 . . 2 .] 311/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 70*. Lifted away. Baugh gets down on bended knee and lifts that over the midwicket boundary. Guyana has no answer to Baugh. He's on the go. Unstoppable. Scoring runs at will and marching on, quickly closing in on a hundred. Just 30 runs away.
106ov [. . . . . .] 301/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 60*. Maiden by Deonarine keeping Hinds from getting up to triple figures. He's playing cautiously, a bit nervous perhaps even though he's a veteran.
105ov [. . 1 . . 4] 301/6: Hinds 96*, Baugh 60*. 300 up with a pull to the boundary. Long hop spanked away. Too many poor balls being hit.
Bess is off. He's not been on song this morning. Bowling short and wide and lacking real pace and overstepping as well. The spunky Bishoo with spikey hairstyle comes back.
104ov [1 . . . . 1] 296/6: Hinds 95*, Baugh 56*. Hinds equals his highest score this season by tucking a single behind square. Just five away from a ton.
103ov [. nb . 1nb . nb 1 2 .] 294/6: Hinds 94*, Baugh 55*. Third no ball was called because it was over the waste. Slipped out from Bess. Bess avoided being hit for a boundary but three no balls. 100 partnership between Hinds/Baugh.
102ov [. . . 4 . .] 287/6: Hinds 91*, Baugh 54*. That's a pull shot that only Baugh can play. He pulls it but it went so fine you'd think it was a sweep shot instead. He's able to play some shots only he can play. 4 is the result.
Deonarine continues from the Southern/Vasbert Drakes End.
101ov [1 . . 1nb 1 nb 4 .] 283/6: Hinds 91*, Baugh 50*. Baugh raises his 50 with a single through covers. That's consecutive 50s for him, he stroked one v Leewards in St Kitts as well. That took him only 50 balls and included six fours and one maximum. Hinds moves into the 90s with an aerial drive just out of Fudadin's reach at extra cover. Not at all convincing there.
Chattergoon perseveres with Bess who was hit for a four 4s in his last 2 overs.
100ov [. . . . . .] 274/6: Hinds 86*, Baugh 48*. Second maiden from Deonarine this morning.
99ov [4 4 1 . 2 nb .] 274/6: Hinds 86*, Baugh 48*. First ball slightly wide but Hinds has been at the crease way too long, gives himself a bit more room and cracks it past point for 4. And Bess follows up with a short ball, this one is much shorter and Hinds goes high behind point, to the right of gully and 4 more. Runs coming at a rapid fire pace. DROPPED! Hinds was planted at the crease and punches it straight to Fudadin who drops it after juggling it a couple of times. Horrendous miss by Fudadin, that was a terrible miss. Went straight to him, got both hands to it and fluffed it. And it robs Bess of his first 5-fer. He'll be gutted.
98ov [. . . . . .] 262/6: Hinds 77*, Baugh 46*. What a surprise! Baugh plays all defensive shots in that over by Deonarine. And it's a maiden. You don't see that too often from Baugh ladies and gents.
97ov [. 4 4 1 . .] 262/6: Hinds 77*, Baugh 46*. Crashed away by Baugh through covers. Top shot that! Mercy me! That was all wrist from Baugh! Flicked a la Dhoni over mid wicket and into the boundary. That got the Jamaican dressing room going. "beat 'im Half-a-man*" they are shouting accompanied by hearty laughter. They like it that Baugh is giving Bess the treatment and doing so with a healthy dose of disdain. (*Half-a-Man being Baugh's nickname).
96ov [. . 1 4 . .] 253/6: Hinds 77*, Baugh 37*. Hinds drives a full toss just wide of Deonarine in his follow through and mid off is too wide and can't get around quickly enough but he was slow off the mark. 4. 250 up.
95ov [. . 1 . 1 3] 248/6: Hinds 73*, Baugh 36*. Baugh and Hinds both playing postively.
Bishoo off after one over, Brandon Bess takes over. These are very strange tactics from Captain Chattergoon. Yesterday he seemed uncertain as to who will bowl when. Extremely indecisive. Several bowlers bowled one over spells yesterday and the trend continues today.
94ov [. . 1 . 1 1] 243/6: Hinds 72*, Baugh 32*. Turning over the strike and intent on taking sharp but ultimately safe singles.
Narsingh Deonarine starts at the Vasbert Drakes End.
93ov [. . . 1 . .] 240/6: Hinds 71*, Baugh 30*. First over gone, just a single to Baugh into the off side.
9:59am: The umpires are heading out and they are closely followed by the Guyanese team looking resplendent in all green caps and off white kit with "Guyana" emblazoned on the front. Wavell Hinds and Carlton Baugh march past the Guyanese team who form a bit of a huddle for a last minute chat by the skipper, Sewnarine Chattergoon. Leg spinner Devendra Bishoo to Baugh.
9:30am: Welcome to a sunny, breezy and cool Foursqaure Oval in the rural parish of St Phillip, Barbados for day 2 of Jamaica v Guyana. The three flags - Barbados' Broken Trident, Guyana's Golden Arrowhead and the black, gold and green of Jamaica - are fluttering briskly in the wind just to the right of the Pickwick Pavilion. A few fans have been in from early and today being Saturday quite a few are expected in throughout the day. Loads of Guyanese reside in Barbados so many will no doubt come out to see their team in action even though they are missing their two star attractions in Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan. West Indies players Narsingh Deonarine and Travis Dowlin are in the line up and should bat today once the Guyanese are able to finish off the Jamaican innings. Needless to mention, Wavell Hinds who went to bed on 71 will be looking for his first ton of the season after hitting 95 v Windwards and 70 v Leewards in the previous rounds. Guyanese pacer Brandon Bess, who got career best figures of 4 for 65 yesterday needs just one more to get his first 5-fer. The Jamaican players just finished up catching practice and some of the batsmen are now getting in some throwdowns in the nets next to the flagpoles. The Guyanese are doing the same on the opposite side of the ground in front the Foursquare Rum Ageing Bond. We start at 10am. Jamaica resumes on 239 for 6 and Carlton Baugh (29*) is at the crease with Hinds.
STUMPS, DAY 1: Even first day. Jamaica did not run away with the Guyanese getting 6 wickets. Jamaica go to bed on 239 for 6 with Wavell Hinds topscoring with an unbeaten 71. He will come back tomorrow in search of his first century for the season after getting fifties against Windwards and Leewards. Carlton Baugh is with him on 29 and Brenton Parchment made 49 while Brendan Nash contributed 43 before giving his hand away. Brandon Bess has taken 4 for 63 with the other wicket taker being Veerasammy Permaul who took 2 for 49. Bess was hot and cold. When he bowled from the Southern End he was erratic but at the Northern End he got bounce and was difficult to deal with. He perhaps suffered from a few captaincy lapses, especially since he did not feature in the middle session. We trust you enjoyed the commentary and the updates, join us tomorrow at 10 am for day two. Be good until.
92ov [4 6 . . . .] 239/6: Hinds 71*, Baugh 29*. Short ball from Bess to start the over and Hinds has batted too long today and is in too good form to not help himself. He pulls it through midwicket for 4. And short again! He does better! 6! Stumps.
91ov [. . . . 4 .] 229/6: Hinds 61*, Baugh 29*. Long hop pulled away in front of square leg for 4 by Baugh. That was an errant delivery from Crandon which just demanded being spanked. The Jamaican batsmen are not at all keen on another over so they call on the 12th man for a bit of time wasting but it doesn't work. The end of the over comes before 5pm so we'll have one more over.
Bonus overs these. 90 completed and we'll get in another 2 before 5pm. If the spinners had continued we'd be closing in on about 110 by now.
90ov [. . 6 1 . 6] 225/6: Hinds 61*, Baugh 25*. Short outside off and Baugh gets under it and upper cuts high and hard and it lands over the rope. Amazing shot at this time of the day. And Hinds gets one which is short and in the slot and he is not going to miss out. Hooks and it goes with the wind for 6. 13 runs from the over by Bess.
89ov [. . . 2 . .] 212/6: Hinds 55*, Baugh 18*. Hinds is clearly playing for the close of play. He wants to come back tomorrow to get a ton but he could not let that one which was wide go, he took 2 off it by going through the covers.
Guyana are going to get through the allotted 90 overs well in advance of the 5pm scheduled close of play.
88ov [. 1 . 2 2 .] 210/6: Hinds 53*, Baugh 18*. Baugh going after Bess' short deliveries but not connecting properly. The last one was a bit quicker and he ducks out of the way. Bess showing his fast bowling pedigree.
87ov [4 1 . 1 4 4] 205/6: Hinds 52*, Baugh 14*. Baugh goes hard at the first ball, doesn't make full contact with the ball but bisects point and gully and the result is 4. Pretty shot from Baugh for another 4. Gets onto the front foot and square drives that to the boundary. And another four. He goes after that and gets a thick edge which flies wide of second slip. 4 more. Most expensive over in the innings and the 200 comes up. 14 runs from the over.
86ov [W . 1 . . .] 191/6: Hinds 51*, Baugh 1*. Bess gets a 4fer and is searching for the 5th. Bess beat Hinds with two sharp lifting deliveries just outside off. Those were beauties. Even stranger now that he did not bowl between lunch and tea.
WICKET: D Bernard lbw Bess 15. 190/6. Half forward is Bernard and Bess strikes him on the front pad. Loud shout and Umpire Grazette raises the finger. That looked a straightforward decision. Carlton 'Action Jackson' Baugh Jr, comes to the crease. You can be guaranteed that he will keep us all entertained.
85ov [. . 2 . . .] 190/5: Hinds 51*, Bernard 15*. 50 for Hinds. Gets it with a straight hit which lacked timing. Hit it to the right of Crandon in his follow through. Bess chases from mid off but the batsmen have enough time to get 2. 50 off 157 balls, 179 minutes, 6x4.
84ov [. 1 4 . . . ] 188/5: Hinds 49*, Bernard 15*. Edged! Bisects the keeper and Chattergoon at first slip and rushes to the boundary. 4 to Bernard. It wasn't a catch, fell well in front of both of them but it certainly should have been stopped. New ball taken after the boundary.
Double change. Bess comes back after being missing since the morning session. He comes on at the Southern End where he started this morning but where he was erratic. He got those 3 wickets from the other end and really bowled well, troubling the Jamaicans with bounce. Strange decision by Captain Chattergoon.
83ov [. . . . . .] 183/5: Hinds 48*, Bernard 11*. Crandon starts with a maiden. A controlled over of medium fast bowling. Not striving for pace, simply running in and delivering on a spot on off stump line.
Esuan Crandon comes on to relieve us from the diet of spin. Bishoo is off at the Northern End. Hinds just two away from 50 but it is Bernard who will face the first delivery. He's played a composed, circumspect hand thus far, thoroughly deserving of 50.
82ov [. 2 . 2 .] 183/5: Hinds 48*, Bernard 11*. Lengthy break in the over after the third delivery. Hinds went down on one knee and pulled hard but found the leg of Assad Fudadin at bat pad. Struck him flush and it was clearly a painful blow. As the Guyanese team does not have a physio, the 12th man - Vishaul Singh - runs out with a can of magic spray. Umpires take the water break and Fudadin eventually goes off for treatment but returns to the field at the end of the break.
81ov [nb . 3 . . . .] 179/5: Hinds 44*, Bernard 11*. Punched between cover and extra cover by Hinds, runs down the slope and Hinds gets three to move to 44. He's really in top form this season and must have narrowly missed out on being recalled to the Windies ODI team for their tour to Australia with the spate of injuries. Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Barath and Darren Bravo are all injured in addition to Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor plus Sulieman Benn.
80ov [. . . . . .] 175/5: Hinds 41*, Bernard 11*. A maiden by Permaul, the left arm orthodox slow bowler who has taken 2 wickets in the innings with the other 3 going to Brandon Bess, the lanky pacer who seems injured.
79ov [3 . . . . 1] 175/5: Hinds 41*, Bernard 11*. Hinds drives past extra cover and gets 3. Bess, from mid off chases, labours after it and pulls it in just short of the boundary. Bess looks as though he's not fully fit. He really struggled after that. Hinds looking for his third 50 this season. He got 95 v Windwards and top scored in Jamaica's first innings in their last match v Leewards with another 50.
78ov [1 4 . . . .] 171/5: Hinds 38*. Bernard 10*. Exquisite cover drive by Bernard. 4. Second such shot he's played. Tremendous. Even the doyen, Tony Cozier, sitting in the media tent is impressed.
77ov [. . . 4 . .] 166/5: Hinds 38*, Bernard 5*. Hinds launches that wide of long on. One bounce into the boundary for 4 just in front the Jamaican dressing room. We've seen the Jamaican batsmen target their own dressing room today.
76ov [. . . . 2 1] 162/5: Hinds 34*, Bernard 5*. Hinds finally comes off 32 which he was on at tea.
75ov [. nb . . . . .] 159/5: Hinds 32*, Bernard 4*.
74ov [. 4 . . . .] 158/5: Hinds 32*, Bernard 4*. Superb cover drive to get off the mark by Bernard.
73ov [. . . . . .] 154/5: Hinds 32*, Bernard 0*. Maiden. The Guyanese fielders were flat before that wicket, they have come alive now.
New batsman is David Bernard Jr. He's a very good bat as you would have seen v Bangladesh last year.
72ov [. . . 2 W .] 154/4: Hinds 32*, Bernard 0*. Finally the wicket Guyana were looking for comes. Nash gifted that to them though. Ordinary delivery does the trick. One problem Guyana won't have and that's being behind the over rate. They are appreciably ahead and could get in 100 overs in the day if they continue with the spinners til the end. That would be 10 more than the mandatory 90.
WICKET: B Nash c Fudadin c Permaul 43. 154/5. Nash gives it away. Short delivery but he pulls it straight to the man on the id wicket boundary. It's not often you see Nash lapse like that. Jamaica lose a wicket just as they were looking for Nash and Hinds to put on a huge partnership. They put on 71 for the 5th wicket.
71ov [1 . . . . .] 152/4: Nash 41*, Hinds 32*. Bishoo giving the ball generous flight on occasion, looking to benefit from some drift with a strong breeze blowing across the field.
70ov [1 . . . . .] 151/4: Nash 40*, Hinds 32*. Nash moves into the 40s.
69ov [. . . 3 nb . .] 150/4: Nash 39*, Hinds 32*. Nash strokes a full delivery to mid off and scampers for one. Bess has a wild throw at the stumps and there is no one backing up so Nash cashes in on two overthrows. Bess is demonstrating that he's not among the best fielders in this tournament. Schoolboy stuff.
Bishoo continues from the Arthur Bethell end. We start off after tea as we ended the post-lunch session - Permaul and Bishoo in tandem.
68ov [. . . . . .] 146/4: Nash 36*, Hinds 32*. Maiden to start after tea.
And we're back after tea. Permaul to continue from the Southern End, the Vasbert Drakes End which is the end which is away from the the media tent and the Pickwick Pavilion.
TEA: Jamaica are 146 for 4 with Brendan Nash on 36 and Wavell Hinds on 32. 80 runs in that session for the loss of just one wicket - that of Brenton Parchment who was lbw to Permaul for 49. Brandon Bess took all three wickets before lunch. Curiously, he did not bowl in the post-lunch session. That was, without a doubt, Jamaica's session after Guyana pipped them in the opening session.
67ov [. . . nb . . .] 146/4: Nash 36*, Hinds 32*. Chattergoon has also not called on Brandon Bess this session and Bess got all three wickets in the first session when he troubled all the batsmen with his bounce. That's tea. The players go off into the shade of the pavilion. They'll all be happy to get out of the sun for 20 minutes.
66ov [1 . . . 4 .] 145/4: Nash 36*, Hinds 32*. Permaul goes around the wicket to Hinds. Hinds goes down on one knee and swings hard over mid wicket. 4. Ball goes out onto the street and Royston Crandon goes in search of it. Chattergoon's captaincy inexperience being shown up. He's missing some tricks by leaving some gaps in the field which are being exploited by the Jamaican batsmen.
65ov [. . . . 2b .] 140/4: Nash 35*, Hinds 28*.
64ov [. . . . . .] 138/4: Nash 35*, Hinds 28*. Maiden by Permaul. It's pretty hot out there. Bishoo to continue. The Guyana strategy seems to stifle the batsmen into submission. Not certain about that plan against Nash and Hinds who is a former Test batsman. They have exploited it well thus far.
63ov [. . 1 . . .] 138/4: Nash 35*, Hinds 28*. Nash moves on to 35 with the only single in the over.
62ov [. . . . . .] 137/4: Nash 34*, Hinds 28*. Permaul starts at the Southern End with a maiden.
Permaul replaces Royston Crandon at the Vasbert Drakes End. Bishoo and Permaul in tandem now. They are the new Mahendra Nagamootoo and Neil McGarrell who were the new Roger Harper and Clyde Butts.
61ov [. . 1 . . .] 137/4: Nash 34*, Hinds 28*.
60ov [4 . . . 2] 136/4: Nash 34*, Hinds 27*. Cut away by Nash. Sweetly timed. Then swept fine for 2. Another relatively runs filled over!
59ov [. . . . 1 .] 130/4: Nash 28*, Hinds 27*.
58ov [. 2 . . . .] 129/4: Nash 27*, Hinds 27*. Hinds catches up Nash. He's likely to run away too. Nash won't be bothered. He bats in his own zone and takes his own time.
57ov [. . 4 . . 1] 127/4: Nash 27*, Hinds 25*. Driven just past short cover. Chandrika gets a bad bounce but Bess chasing down to the boundary does not cover himself in glory. Terrible work. He's got to do a lot of work on his fielding Bess. Chases and tries to flick the ball, misses and it bobbles into the boundary for 4. Poor.
Bowling change. Bishoo comes on at the norther end, replacing Permaul.
56ov [1 . 1 . 2 .] 122/4: Nash 27*, Hinds 20*. Relatively big over for Jamaica. 4 runs from it all told. Not that the batsmen are being severely troubled by vicious spin or anything of the sort. They are just playing cautiously and ensuring no further wickets fall.
55ov [. . . . . .] 118/4: Nash 24*, Hinds 19*. Maiden over.
54ov [. . . . . 2] 118/4: Nash 24*, Hinds 19*.
53ov [. . . . . .] 116/4; Nash 22*, Hinds 19*. Miaden over by Permaul. Just one run from the last 3 overs. Painstaking going by the Jamaicans but they are careful not to lose another wicket. Nash and Hinds want to build a big partnership as they continue to consolidate.
52ov [1 . . . . .] 116/4: Nash 22*, Hinds 19*.
Sean Devers on commentary taking his cue from the Bajan crowd discussions. Discussing Leonard Baichan, Carl Hooper, Lawrence Rowe. Surely Sir Everton Weekes will come up soon.
51ov [1 . . . . .] 115/4: Nash 22*, Hinds 18*.
Small but vocal crowd on hand. But then again the Barbadian crowds, regardless of size, are always vocal.
50ov [4 . . 1 . 1] 114/4: Nash 22*, Hinds 17*. Poor delivery by Royston Crandon to start with. It was as if he planned to give Nash a four first up. One bounce into the bat and Nash smashes it to the square leg boundary for 4.
Royston Crandon comes on, replacing Devendra Bishoo after just one over. It will be off spin from the younger Crandon.
49ov [. . . . 4 .] 108/4: Nash 17*, Hinds 16*. Hinds goes over mid off but only barely makes it and it runs away for 4. It's Brandon Bess who's fielding at that position, he leaps but doesn't quite make it. Hinds will say he placed it perfectly but not sure the Guyanese will be convinced. It was hit powerfully but risky.
Players take some juice from the drinks cart. It's an actualy pushcart. Haven't seen one of those serving drinks on the cricket field for a long time. In Jamaica they have full sized cars coming onto the field bringing drinks. We're ready to re-commence the, ah, 'action' even though there is not a lot of it from the bat. Spinners holding the batsmen in check mostly.
48ov [. . 1 . 1 1] 104/4: Nash 17*, Hinds 12*. Appeal for lbw on the second delivery but very, very timid by the Guyanese. They seem very timid and sheepish in their appealing, even when they should be confident. Quite abnormal these days when teams have perfected boisterous appealing. That's drinks.
Naringh Deonarine comes off after bowling 18 wicketless overs. Devendra Bishoo, the leggie, comes in for his first bowl at the Vasbert Drakes End.
47ov [. . . . . .] 101/4: Nash 16*, Hinds 10*. Maiden. Nash tries to cut the final delivery but barely misses. Lucky. He could have easily gotten a thin edge on that and it could have ended up in wicketkeeper Christian's gloves. Nash hangs his head backwards knowing it was a lapse in judgment.
46ov [. 4 . . . .] 101/4: Nash 16*, Hinds 10*. Hinds goes onto the backfoot and pulls hard over midwicket. Runs into the boundary for 4. 100 up. Typical muscular Wavell Hinds shot. He's built like a middleweight boxer and uses a lot more muscle than timing in his shots. 100 up in 182 mins, 45.2 balls, 8x4, 2x6.
45ov [. . . . . .] 97/4: Nash 16*, Hinds 6*. Jamaica approaching triple figures, but ever so slowly. Nash is playing watchfully but that's his style. Hinds is also being watchful but he's just starting his innings.
Permaul continues but switches to operating over the wicket.
44ov [. . 1 . . .] 97/4: Nash 16*, Hinds 6*. Another over from which just one run is scored and it was only through a mis-field.
43ov [. . . 4 . . ] 96/4: Nash 15*, Hinds 6*. Hinds stands at the crease and launches it high over mid on. A few bounces onto the rope. 4. Powerful shot against Permaul.
42ov [1 . . 1 2 .] 92/4: Nash 15*, Hinds 2*. Nash takes a single behind point and a double by sweeping fine. Hinds using his long reach and padding up to Deonarine's off spin.
41ov [. . 1 . . .] 88/4: Nash 12*, Hinds 1*. Permaul putting a bit more pace on the ball now. Ends the over with a quicker, flatter delivery.
40ov [. . 1 . . .] 87/4: Nash 11*, Hinds 1*.
39ov [. nb . 1 . . .] 86/4: Nash 10*, Hinds 1*. It's pretty much the same every over. Maidens or one or two singles, batsmen playing forward defensively mostly. Being watchful and continuing their assessment of the pitch and the bowlers.
38ov [. . . . . .] 84/4: Nash 9*, Hinds 1*.
37ov [1 . . . 1 .] 84/4: Nash 9*, Hinds 1*. Hinds off the mark with a single into the on side. Hinds seems very concerned about the pitch. He's going down the track after every ball and tapping at it feverishly. It suggests that it's beginning to come apart. Not a good sign but Nikita Miller and Odean Brown, the Jamaican spinners will like that.
36ov [. . 1 . . .] 82/4: Nash 8*, Hinds 0*. Hinds coming long forward to Deonarine and playing close to the pitch with that extremely long blade bat that seems to weigh as much as a truck. It's a thick one.
Guyana continue to make breakthroughs, getting a wicket soon after lunch.
35ov [. 2 . . W .] 81/4: Nash 7*, Hinds 0*. Permaul takes his first wicket, the first wicket to be taken by someone other than Bess.
WICKET: B Parchment lbw Permaul 49. 81/4. Gone for 49! Went onto the back foot was struck in front. Umpire Holder had no hesitation in raising the finger. One short of 50, painful as Parchment batted well. The in form Wavell Hinds comes to the crease.
34ov [. 1 . 1 . .] 79/3: Parchment 47*, Nash 7*. Single each to Parchment and Nash. Moving along but not in a hurry at all.
33ov [. . . . . .] 77/3: Parchment 46*, Nash 6*. Maiden by Permaul. Applying the pressure are the spinners.
32ov [. . . . 1 .] 77/3: Parchment 46*, Nash 6*. Four away from a fifty is Parchment. The spinners operating in tandem is a formula the Guyanese are likely to adopt for most of the rest of the day.
31ov [. 1 . 4 1 .] 76/3: Parchment 45*, Nash 6*. Parchment quickly getting up to what will be his first fifty of the season.
30ov [. . . . . .] 70/3: Parchment 40*, Nash 5*. Maiden over. Wayne Daniel, on commentary is calling for a more attacking field from Sewnarine Chattergoon.
Deonarine from the Vasbert Drakes End.
29ov [. 2 . . 1 .] 70/3: Parchment 40*, Nash 5*. Played away through covers for 2. Not the greatest fielding effort from Deonarine, allows a second run which should not have been on had he done a competent job.
Back after lunch. Veerasammy Permaul to continue from the Arthur Bethell End which is to the north.
CCC are in trouble at their home ground - 3 Ws Oval. They are 56 for 5 at lunch with Kenroy Peters and Darren Sammy both taking 2 for 16. The other wicket went via the run out route. Necoli Parris is not out on 9. The batsmen out are Omar Phillips (4), Kyle Corbin (10), Simon Jackson (15), Romel Currency (2) and Floyd Reifer (12).
LUNCH: Jamaica are 66 for 3. Guyana would not be unhappy with the session. 3 wickets on a flat track represents a good session for them. Jamaica would be unhappy that they lost as many wickets but Parchment is well set on 37 and Nash - the stickler - is with him on 5. Brandon Bess took all three wickets. He really troubled the Jamaicans with his bounce.
28ov [1 . . . . 1] 67/3: Parchment 37*, Nash 5*. And that's lunch.
27ov [. . . . . .] 65/3: Parchment 36*, Nash 4*. Maiden over is the penultimate one before lunch. We have enough time for one more.
Permaul replaces Fudadin at the Arthur Bethell End.
26ov [1 . . . . .] 65/3: Parchment 36*, Nash 4*. Should just be one more over before lunch.
Lunch is quickly creeping up on us.
25ov [. . . . 6 1] 64/3: Parchment 35*, Nash 4*. Parchment takes an immediate liking to Fudadin. One step down the track and launches him over the wide mid on boundary. Just in front the Jamaica dressing room. 6!
Bess (9-0-31-3) is off at the Arthur Bethell End and is replaced by Assad Fudadin who will bowl his military medium. Off just a few short paces, sort of Wavell Hindsesque.
24ov [2 . . . . .] 57/3: Parchment 28*, Nash 4*. Two runs from the over to Nash.
Deonarine continues and he has those canefields gliding up the gentle hill as a backdrop.
23ov [. 2 nb . . . .] 55/3: Parchment 28*, Nash 2*.
The Grantley Adams Airport is just over the hills which are away to the south and we can see planes taking off ever so often. Adds a lovely touch to the already fantastic scene.
22ov [1 1 1 1 . .] 52/3: Parchment 26*, Nash 2*. Nash off the mark and 50 up in the 22nd over. Batsmen turning over the strike now.
21ov [4 4 . . . .] 48/3: Parchment 24*, Nash 0*. First ball pulled away by Parchment. Poor work by substitute Trevor Benn. Misses the ball completely. Rolls into the boundary. Second ball pulled away through wide mid on. Imperious by Parchment. Powerful shot! He's showing the strength in those bulging muscles which he has on display having chopped off most of the sleeves of his shirt.
20ov [. 1 . . . .] 40/3: Parchment 16*, Nash 0*. Deonarine remains frugal.
19ov [. 2 W . . .] 39/3: Parchment 15*, Nash 0*. Bess is steaming in but it is not his pace which is causing so much problems as his bounce. Windies chairman of selectors Clyde Butts had publicly stated that the Windies attack needs some variety with someone who can deliver from high and get some bounce. He'd be happy with what Bess is producing here.
WICKET: T Lambert c Dowlin b Bess 3. 39/3. Third wicket for Bess! Short delivery, Lambert looks to guide it past gully it seems and gets a thick edge high on the bat. Dowlin swallows it at second slip. He should have left that alone Lambert. Very poor shot but he was beaten for some pace there and it lifted on him as well. The Jamaicans are not handling Bess well at all. his height is troubling them. Brendan Nash is the new batsman.
18ov [. . . . . .] 37/2: Parchment 15*, Lambert 1*. Deonarine is perfecting his maidens.
17ov [. . 1 . . .] 37/2: Parchment 15*, Lambert 1*. Bess bowling on the shorter side, clearly bowling better from the Arthur Bethell End than the Vasbert Drakes End.
16ov [. . . . . .] 36/2: Parchment 14*, Lambert 1*. Maiden by Deonarine to follow the breakthrough over from Bess. Lambert not troubled though, just using that front foot to smother whatever little turn Deonarine is getting.
15ov [W W 1 . . .] 36/2: Parchment 14*, Lambert 1*. Lambert avoids the hat trick but it was a poor delivery from Bess. Full toss. Must have been looking for the yorker. Bess bending his back now though. He's fired up, as you'd expect, after getting those two wickets.
WICKET: D Pagon b Bess 0. 35/2. First ball! Bess double strike! He's on a hat trick. Short delivery first up and Pagon stands tall and defends, gets the full face of the bat on it but it also got some extra bounce - Bess is a really tall fella - and goes on to the stumps! Pagon goes for a duck and Bess has made a tremendous double breakthrough.
WICKET: D Hyatt c Chattergoon b Bess 18. 35/1. Bess strikes with his first ball from the Arthur Bethell End. On the off stump, lacks bounce but forces Hyatt into a forward defensive prod. Gets an edge and goes low to Chattergoon at first slip who takes a fine catch just inches from the ground.
Bess switches end. He comes on at the Arthur Bethell end repalcing Esuan Crandon. Wayne Daniel is the radio commentary analyst and is excited about seeing Bess from this end.
14ov [. 4 . . . .] 35/0: Parchment 14*, Hyatt 18*. Stretches forward does Parchment and drives just wide of cover point and it runs away for 4. The ball is really sliding across the outfield. The batsmen will be happy with that. And that's drinks, first drinks break for the day.
Are you following the T&T v BDOS game? Collins is having a good time against the Trinis. 3 wickets in his back pocket already.
13ov [. . . 4 . .] 31/0: Parchment 10*, Hyatt 18*. Hyatt goes for a drive, gets a thick outside edge, just wide of gully and runs away for 4. Not a convincing shot.
Nope, no switch of ends for Permaul. Esuan Crandon continues.
12ov [. 1 . . . .] 27/0: Parchment 10*, Hyatt 14*. Deonarine starts on target as did Permaul before him.
A quick bowling change. Permaul bowls just one over from the Southern End - which is the Vasbert Drakes End - and Narsingh Deonarine comes in. Permaul may switch to the Northern End, relieving Esuan Crandon.
11ov [. . . . . .] 26/0: Parchment 10*, Hyatt 13*. Consecutive maidens from Crandon now. He's straightening that line further and bowling off stump now.
Esuan Crandon continues from the Northern End and let's not forget that his brother Royston Crandon is also in the side and he bowls some tidy off spin as well, so even more spin options for Guyanese captain Sewnarine Chattergoon who himself bowls leg spin. Five spin options for Guyana.
10ov [. . . . . 1] 26/0: Parchment 10*, Hyatt 13*. Permaul on target for his first over.
First bowling change. Brandon Bess is off at that Southern End and Veerasammy Permaul, the left arm orthodox spinner is on. We'll see a lot of spin from the Guyanese. They also have leg spinner Devendra Bishoo and Narsingh Deonarine who will deliver more than a few overs.
9ov [. . . . . .] 25/0: Parchment 9*, Hyatt 13*. Maiden by Crandon. He's persevering and is bowling a little straighter now and forcing the batsmen to play.
A lovely ground is Foursquare Oval. As we look across the ground to the south there are acres and acres of canefields with the leaves of the cane plant rolling in the strong winds. Lovely, wonderful backdrop. The Pickwick Pavilion, just to the right of the northern sightscreen is very cozy and inviting as well. We're here in the media tent just between the sightscreen and pavilion.
8ov [. . 6 3 . .] 25/0: Parchment 9*, Hyatt 13*. Phenomenal shot! Short delivery outside off by Bess and Hyatt climbed onto his toes and cut it away behind point, that rides the strong wind blowing across the ground and goes over the ropes! 6! Vicious shot by Hyatt! Crimans! That was superb! Bess not settling on a proper line or length. He's all over the shop.
7ov [. . 4 . . .] 16/0: Parchment 9*, Hyatt 4*. Short delivery pulled away stylishly by Parchment. Races down to the boundary behind square for 4.
6ov [. . 3 1 . ] 12/0: Parchment 5*, Hyatt 4*. Turned into the onside, scamper through for 2 and they pick up one overthrow. Followed up by a short delivery from Bess which sits up and is pulled away. Just a single. Perhaps too slow for Parchment to be in control. He was expecting that to be quicker.
5ov [. . . . . 1] 8/0: Parchment 4*, Hyatt 1*.
4ov [. 1 . . . 1b] 7/0: Parchment 4*, Hyatt 0*. Single to Parchment and a bye in that over. Bess testing the batsmen with a few short deliveries. Working up some pace as well.
3ov [. . 2 . 1 .] 5/0: Parchment 3*, Hyatt 0*. Parchment off the mark with an on drive. Not well timed but worth 2, went wide of the vacant mid on.
2ov [. . nb . . nb . .] 2/0: Parchment 0*, Hyatt 0*. Just 2 runs from that over, coming from no balls. No runs off the bat as yet.
Guyana made one change, leaving out Vishaul Singh for Royston Crandon who missed the previous game against Trinidad & Tobago because of an illness. He's properly recovered now. Both of the Jamaican openers are coming into the final XI. Parchment was dropped for the last game and Hyatt came into the squad as Xavier Marshall's repalcement.
1ov [. . . . . .] 0/0: Parchment 0*, Hyatt 0*. Maiden over to start by Crandon.
We're about to start first class cricket at Foursquare for the first time. Esuan Crandon to bowl the first ball to Brenton Parchment who has Danza Hyatt as his partner. No doubt it will be the lanky and exciting Brandon Bess to bowl the second over.
The officials are: Match Referee: Hartley Reid, Standing umpires: Dalton Holder & Patrick Grazette, Third official: Ricky Brathwaite
Guyana XI: Sewnarine Chattergoon (captain), Rajendra Chandrika, Travis Dowlin, Assad Fudadin, Narsingh Deonarine, Royston Crandon, Derwin Christian (wicketkeeper), Esuan Crandon, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Brandon Bess
Jamaica XI: Tamar Lambert (captain), Brenton Parchment, Danza Hyatt, Donovan Pagon, Wavell Hinds, Brendan Nash, Carlton Baugh Jr, (wicketkeeper), David Bernard Jr, Nikita Miller, Daren Powell, Odean Brown.
Welcome to Foursquare Oval in Barbados. The conditions are a bit overcast and Guyana have won the toss and have inserted Jamaica.
Match starts at 10am Friday Jan 22 at Foursquare Oval
